is it wrong of me ...

posted 5th Feb
... for me to be a bit angry that my friend whose husband is unemployed and she works part time in the same job as me. She ends up bringing in more per month in welfare than SO and I combined. I know its stupid for me to be upset, but when you also take in that shes in government housing and doesnt pay for child care ... she actually has over $1000 more a month than me.

I don't know how it is where you live but here in Florida where I live, if you're on unemployment you have to fill out at the minimum 5 applications a week and show proof/get it that you went to the business and filled it out. I mean at least he had a job at one time. I know how frustrating it can be but it always makes me feel good that I don't need the help. Right now I am working full time and hubby just lost his job and our awesome freakin' health benefits. Now I'm stuck getting state aid until he can get back on his feet and find a good job. Sometimes people need help every once in awhile.

Unemployment is not welfare. It is earned income to a degree. I can see why you would be jealous or upset. My husband used to collect unemployment 3-6 months a year with the USFS because he would get laid off. BUT he would go back during fire season. Well, that was when we were transferred up here. In AZ it was for like 3-4 weeks. Regardless, employers pay into it to protect their employees in these situations and to keep them off welfare programs while they search for other employment or await for their appointment to restart.

I think you should focus more on your life and stay out of others financial business. Don't worry so much about what is going on in anothers life. You don't know if they are telling 100% the truth to start with and second, all it does is create unnecessary issues in your life.

Personally I feel it's wrong for you to be bothered by it.

It's nothing to do with you what money they make or get.
You and your partner make much higher then the average amount in Australia, yes yor struggling because you've just been through a tough time but that doesn't mean your co-worker should suffer aswell.

I don't see how she could make that much then you, considering you and your partner work fulltime, and new start allowance is peanuts. She obviously just has less expenses.
