ladies who crochet

posted 4th Feb
so, i just started crocheting. i taught myself with a youtube video, lol. i can only do the very basics. i can chain and then do a single crochet. i am making a very plain blanket right now with one ball of yarn just to see if i can do it. it looks a little silly, but it's not too bad.

anyway.... i am looking for ideas on other easy things to make. i was thinking hats or something. i have some friends at work who are also having babies and i wanted to kind of do some fancy looking things for their babies, but without using a lot of yarn. i've started searching the web, but i was just wondering if anyone has any ideas of things that they know are easy to make and how to make them. also, i have no idea how to change colors or add a new ball of yarn in while crocheting.... any advice?

Look up Mikeyssmail on youtube. I just started about a month ago and for three weeks could only do the single stitch. I ran across a simple baby bootie tutorial of his and in the last four days have learned the half double, double, basket and cluster stitches and am currently working on a super easy never-ending afghan (of course, it does end when you want it to, lol.) His vintage preemie hat is pretty simple (and easy to make bigger) and so are the simple baby booties.

Once I finish this afghan, I'm going to give fingerless gloves for myself and a beanie for my husband a try.

i did come across his tutorial on how to make a baby hat of some kind. it looked pretty simple, but he was doing stitches i didn't know. lol. i might try it again, though.

try searching mikeyssmail beginners. He has several tutorials showing how to do various stitches. He's the easiest to follow in my opinion. I dunno if it's just because he puts a modern, gay twist on crocheting or what, but he's seriously amazing, lol.

He even has a tutorial on reading patterns. In all honesty though, just watching him do the various stitches in various tutorials was enough for me to figure them out. I never watched the videos on half double, double, cluster or basket. I just picked them up in various small projects I dug out of his uploads.

Ooooh you need to get the book my Mom got me. It was SUCH a great help... it was the first book that dumbed it down to where I could understand. Let me dig it up and I'll post the name!
