UC safety

I was reading about free birthing and how some woman deliver their own babies at home, with no doctor OR midwife, is that actually safe like the advocate says? Like no help, just you and your partner, go into labor, and just go at it? Because a lot of times a baby will have the cord wrapped on their neck, not be breathing, need emergency care, get stuck (happened to a woman I know, baby was turning blue) so what then? I saw the videos, the ladies look so peaceful and the baby slips right out with no problem.. But that has to be risky, to have no medical back up nearby just in case? I don't know, thoughts?

I almost had an UC MW should up right before he was fully out. Next time ill call her after I have the baby just to do the newborn screen and birth paperwork. My son was posterior and his shoulder was stuck. I was educated enough I wasn't scared. Dh was freaking out so I kicked him out of the room.

How does one learn everything they need to know beforehand? Is there a book?

After having my son at home I would never do it any other way. I would have to say though, I would never do it without my midwives... Just for simple medical necessity, but a good medium (which is what I want to do if ever I have more children) is have them be hands-off and just attend in case of an emergency. I felt that my body knew exactly what it was doing and sometimes they really just got in my way. I could have gone unassisted, but I didn't know that before! lol

I read TONS of books, watched videos, talked to my MW. I was suppose to have a homebirth with her and a doula. Massssssive snow storm happened and they didn't make in time.
I had loaded on to my phone an emergency childbirth book I had read just incase the scenario above happened plus I was a trained emt-b and we learned how to deliver babies.
