Ear Tubes question.

posted 4th Feb
My son has had an ongoing ear infection for..I'd say...about 4 months now. He went through 3 rounds of antibiotics, and then a Rocephin shot followed by a 4th round of oral antibiotics.
He has a follow-up tomorrow to see if it is gone and if not we're going to be referred to an ENT. I know it's not gone, he's still messing with his ears and having sleep problems.

Anywhooo...this may be a dumb question but I know nothing about this. His daddy is having to take him to the dr. tomorrow because I have clinicals. I am going to tell him to ask this but incase I don't get a good answer (probably) I decided to ask you guys..
If tubes are recommended, and the infection isn't already gone, how does that work? Will the tubes get rid of the current infection? Or do they have to get rid of it first?

I am pretty sure they have to get rid of the current infection first.

Google ear tubes.

It is basically a tube they put in the ear drum, they still get the infection but the tube drains the fluid to prevent the pain from the infection. Eventually they will grow enough that they will fall out and hopefully by then their ear canal is the right way and they won't get the infections.

She just got them done on the 16th, she has her check-up for them on Thursday, but she's eating two ounces more than usual, finally taking solid foods, and so much happier! That all started the day after tubes. Her infections were so bad that she's suffering hearing loss and she can now hear SOOOOO much better. She did awesome and we were there for an hour total.
