If your kid skateboards?

posted 4th Feb
What age did they start? What is the youngest a child could probably start to learn? Also, who did they learn from. TIA

I'm trying to figure out if it's something I should look into for DD who loves to scoot on her high chair tray and stands on it and has amazing balance, but is just now learning to walk without assistance.

Mine doesn't, but my cousin's son was a pro! A little daredevil lol. He was only 2 years old when he was skateboarding, riding a scooter, and riding a bike with NO training wheels!

My kids don't....my boys have no interest, and my daughter is on blood thinners. However, I did. I started when I was 8-9 years old, and started out learning from a friend's older brother. As I got older, I did a lot of my learning just from experimentation.

I wouldn't recommend "looking into it" because she likes to scoot on a high chair tray. Let her choose what she wants to get into as she figures it out instead of pushing her into something she did as a toddler.

My oldest daughter's first ride was when she was almost a year, with her daddy. She's got her own and has been working at it for about 2 almost, 3 years. Her dad and uncle both were pretty into it. Her daddy is an amazing skater so it came naturally to her and was bound to happen.

Tony Hawk started skating when he was 8 or 9 I think.

My brother started skating when he was about age 10. Him and his buddies would skate around the neighborhood. Pretty quickly he was following the teenagers around and picking up on their tricks.

I know he had wanted to go from street skating to the skate park, indoor and outdoor, but it was hard because they are entirely different and it frustrated him a bit.

I know! When I was about 4 months pregnant with my LO, I was babysitting my cousin's kid and he was doing all that down the sloped driveway towards the street! I was freaking out and yelled at him to stop and stay in the grass lmao.

I should have added she's 5 will be 6 in august. She's not that good at it yet. She wears a helmet and all the pads. Most of the time, I'm pulling her teaching her how and helping her practice.

I mean look into it, like figure out if this is something we can do safely once she's more stable on her feet. We have a long driveway and it would be perfect for learning to skate.

I have no plans of pushing her into something, but I also am not going to bring the high chair tray outside lol. But it's not just scooting, she loves to stand up and down despite it moving around under her she will sit down and get right back up. She's pretty fearless and seems to really enjoy it. I was thinking she might really enjoy a scooter or skateboard.

This is her scooting because I don't have a video of her standing on it.

Thank you. What kind of skateboard does she use? This is what I was thinking of doing. But even just starting by getting her a scooter board thing that we can go up and down the driveway but if she really likes it I just wasn't sure how young was too young.

just a cheap kiddie one right now. We'll get her a nicer one once she's able to actually go by herself. She uses those scooters too. This little boy next door to us does tricks on his scooter and she's dying to try out some tricks too. I have to stop her there though LOL. I don't think she's too young as long as your there, protective gear is worn and she's able to stand alone.

Thanks so much! I'm figuring by the time spring/summer is here and we can actually use the driveway she will be really stable on her feet. I'm also hoping it'll be good for her PT, especially with the scooterboard. Hopefully they make protective gear small enough for her lol, she's in size 9-12 months   at 18 months lol. So, we will see!
