You had every right to tell that lady to mind her own business. You should NEVER undermine a parents desicion in front of the kid. It only shows the child that mom is not always right. I know just the one time wont make a difference, but you need to stand up for yourself every time someone tries to undermine you. It doesnt matter how old you are or how old you look, it is your kid, your rules. And like others said, you werent beating her. Just a smack on the hand.
