If you have/had hardwood floor....

posted 4th Feb
What did you do when LO became mobile? My son is rolling around everywhere, learning to crawl and can sit unassisted about 80% of the time. But he is still relatively unstable and frequently tips over, or bonks his head, or (like this morning) slams his poor little nose into the hard floor.
I always lay down a large, thick blanket when he is playing on the floor, but it takes less than 30 seconds for him to roll to the other side of the room, so it's pretty pointless to have it there at all.
I don't want to hinder him experimenting with movement, but I also don't want a bruised, sad baby boy.
Any advice? What did you do?

I put blankets down over the whole floor and just tried to stay by her and catch her.

Our last place we were in a basement apartment. It had the short, fine carpeting. I laid blankets then she just got frustrated and would venture off so I gave up

We had area rugs, so I tried to keep the LOs on those until they were less likely to hurt themselves.

We have rugs set around in different areas of the house but we just let her roam. When she falls she just gets back up! haha

We have wooden and tiled floor all downstairs, even now at nearly 17 months old he can falls over when he runs to fast. I used to put blankets down but when he became mobile they just got in his way. He has had a few bruises but nothing too serious.

I lined half the floor the toy area with those big foam pieces you get at Walmart. Worked wonders for us.

Same. I sit him down on a blanket but he immediately crawls off of it.

We have those big puzzle piece mats. Thats where he's learned to sit up and roll over and what not. But now thats he's grooving he will roll off them. He's bumped his head a few times but now he's got it down where he lifts his head a bit when he rolls so he doesn't bump it. Such a smart little man!!

Thanks ladies! I guess I'll just keep doing what I'm doing. I'm a FTM and of course I freak out every time he hurts himself, but it's gonna happen.
The more he practices, the steadier he will be, right?

Yep, DS just figured out to lift his head when he rolls. Hopefully he'll figure out how not to slam himself when he moves in his 234998 other ways, lol!
And the puzzle piece mats are a good idea.
