Couple questions about WIC

posted 4th Feb
I see on the website they count everyone in the houses income. We live with my mom(we're roommates for personal reasons) She would qualify with how much she makes but not what's in her bank.. so my question is would they count her savings? Or just income? Also, what all do you get with WIC? I know of getting milk, eggs, juice, and cereal. Anything else?

Cheese, bread, beans.

Also, state that you live with your mother, but your expenses are separate. List the bills you pay, the income you receive, etc. If you pay half the rent, have your mother write a statement that you pay such and such a month for rent.

Also, after baby comes, you get formula on WIC if you aren't breastfeeding which is a major help. Considering formula is $15 a can and up.

Pretty sure WIC doesnt go by your bank account. I know food stamps does check your account though.

Milk, eggs, juice, cheese, cereal are the general.
Pregnant you get beans breastfeeding you get tuna/fish of some sort

where i come from if your mom writes a letter to the wic office explaining you are room mates and you pay your own bills, its just a place for you to stay, they only count your income.

I'm not on WIC but when I called about the income limits when we lived with my inlaws they said they would only count my inlaws income if dh and I weren't working but if one of us was working we would be considered a separate family from my inlaws (so a family of 3 instead of a family of 5)

They'll acknowledge us as just being roommates? I would hope so, that would help!
Yeah, they sound they can help a lot!

You also get fruits and veggies. I know here as long as your over 21, you should still get it regardless of your mom's income.

That's why I asked because after I lost my job I tried to get food stamps but they wanted to know how much my mom had in her savings.

I was usually able to get milk, juice, eggs, cereals, grains such as brown rice, and carrot sticks ( I'm pretty certain WIC now allows more variety in the fresh fruit/veggies now, this is just what it was like when I still had WIC) as well as peanut butter or peas/beans/lentils. I can't remember if there was anything else, it's been a while. I do know that I usually stopped WIC once they switched me to the milk and baby cereal stuff, as I bfed and have always found using the not particularly nutritious cereals as rididculous. I prefer avocados and homemade baby foods, and stuff like that.
I'm not sure what they do now, as I know things have changed a bit

I think I might head down to the office in a bit. How long does it take to get approved and everything?

Quoting That one chick.:" I'm 19 my fiance is 21... so would that count?"

Nope, because he isnt getting WIC, you are. Maybe it is different where your at though? My friend just went through this. Her and her fiance couldnt get it because she was under 21 and still lived with her mom. She is 20 and her fiance is 29.
