How early can they tell the gender of baby??

I am almost 12 weeks along. I went to my OBGYN on Friday for a regular appt and she did an ultrasound...her machine isn't as fancy as the ultrasound techs. Anyways, she said she didn't notice a penis. At the end of the ultrasound she said she is pretty sure it's a girl...have any of you had your doc tell you this and it be true? False?

Generally 18-22 weeks is when they do a gender scan. I was told at 18 weeks that my LO was a boy and they kept telling me that until I was 7 months pregnant.. Then all of a sudden they were like "It is a girl". Turned out to be a girl. Around 12 weeks isn't an accurate scan to tell you the gender. GL

at 13 weeks we could barely see a nub there so she "guessed" girl.
At 19 there was a huge ole penis.
At that point it's just a guess. I know some women have found out then and it been right, but very rarely before like 16 weeks are they right.

Not until after 15 weeks, and it's not always clear yet because of angles and image quality. Before 15 weeks they still have a nub that is transitioning into what it will be and genitalia is still considered ambiguous.

lol, they can't tell at 12 weeks. 14 weeks EARLIEST but it can still be iffy. I found out at 15w4d

I had an ultrasound at 14 weeks with my first and the doctor said he's betting only a dollar it was a girl, I had the anatomy scan at 18 weeks and surely it was a girl! I wouldn't trust it any earlier than 18 weeks though. I found out with this baby at 20 weeks.

I had a transvaginal ultrasound at 12 weeks and the tech said he was 99% sure it was a girl ..I'm now 22 weeks and I went for an attempt at the gender scan again and it was confirmed 100% to be a girl ..so there's always a chance that's right

The place where I had my 3D/4D ultrasound starts doing gender confirmation at 15 weeks. They also have some kickass equipment. We found out at 16 weeks and 3 days and we have some awesome pictures of her. It just depends on how good the equipment is, quality of image, if baby cooperates, if they're developed enough. Generally 16-20 weeks is the best time to tell. =]

12 weeks is way too early for the gender my OB had me do the gender ultrasound at 18 weeks at the time i was 17 weeks when i wanted to find out what i was having i was so bummed because my ob wanted me to wait a week he said anything below 16weeks is too early to tell so you would have to wait till either 16 or for sure 18 weeks thats when they can see the babies parts more clear lol good luck

Yeah, but that's just standard baby nub. You need to visualize scrotum/testicles to confirm boy. There are none in that picture so they guessed.

i found out at 18 wks with my first boy, 14wks 5 days with my second boy, and 14 weeks 6 days with my third boy.

I had an ultrasound at 12 weeks and the tech said she was almost positive it was a boy from the angle of the nub. (From the way he was sitting, she got a VERY clear image of it.) We started buying boy stuff on a whim because we also had the FEELING it was going to be a boy. It wasn't confirmed for sure until 18 weeks though, and sure enough, they told us he's definitely a little boy. Ever since then, they keep telling me he's a boy.

I'll be so sad if he comes out a girl at this point... we have so much boy stuff... @_@

I was almost 12 weeks when my husband thought it was a boy.... because you could see something in between his legs.... but I swore it was his cord, until my 18 week and it was a boy lol...
