RANT!

posted 4th Feb
Im a first time mom. I dont know if this was me or not but my recent docs appt made me so mad. We went in and did the whole check up think and they take my BP and its pretty high. The nurse just looks and me and asks if I lost my mucus plug, if i have been having contractions ect. I answer yes, i lost my mucus plug at 31 weeks and i have the braxton hicks contracts, and yes they are painful but infrequent. So they say my doc has a resident and she will be assisting her. Im ok with that. So the resident comes in and basically does the whole appt. WTF. Where is the doc, she is suppose to be assiting her. The resident seemed a little nervouse. Im not mad at the resident but why is this doc not helping her???? So the doc comes in...finally...goes to listen to HB of the baby, so has the doppler on for...im not kididng enough to here for like 2-3 seconds...and the one we have you dont automatically get the hb per min. So they go to do my strep? test. She has the resident do. The doc takes off her gloves and goes..well come back in a week. This is a long story...but the doc was in the room for like 3 mins. They take my blood pressure again and its still high. I havent had any problems with my bp till these last two appointments. They dont say why there high, or if its a problem. They just leave and say see you in a week. WTF

Did you tell them you noticed your blood pressure was high and you wanted to know why and what they were going to do about it? I wouldn't have left the office until they answered my questions.

I didnt even get a chance to, she was in and out. I dont know how you dont say something when your patient history shows low/normal bp until the last appt and then the same thing at the current appt. How do you just ignore something like that...ugh

It's a teaching hospital. A resident is still a doctor. They do this so they can learn. Next time, just don't say yes.

Obviously they didn't think you were at risk if they told you to go home.

How high was your blood pressure?

I'm sorry, I hate how quickly some places/people pass you through like a number  I just got my BFP and called a new dr to get in for bloodwork since I have previous losses and since i'm a "new" patient they won't see me till 8 wks. So basically my embryo and I aren't as important to them??!! WTF I wish you the best of luck and hope everything is alright with you and they start treating you like a human rather than a number!

No. They make you wait because you can't see anything on an ultrasound until roughly then, and the miscarriage rate is much lower at that point.

I know my OB's office is very busy & if they are overly busy he will let a resident do the heartbeat & such then he will come in a bit later. They never listened to the heartbeat for too long, just long enough to get the rate. As for the high blood pressure...do they test your urine for protien every visit? If they didn't see any protien they may not be concerned, but she should have at least let you know something. Next time make sure to tell her as soon as she walks in that you have a few questions & concerns.

I dont mind that there was a resident. I think the doctor should have been with her the whole appt. Not just 3 mins and then leave...it was 159/80 something then the second reading was 140/80. The last appt i had..i think it was 146/80. If thats the case i rather have her say..hey its nothing to worry about it.

I could care less about an ultrasound. I want my levels drawn especially my progesterone seeing as the only pregnancy I had to term I was on injectable progesterone for the first 3 months. And yes you can see something on u/s at 5 weeks..... I'm older with a significant history of ttc and keeping a pregnancy so it's natural to be concerned about my levels especially if it's fixable early on with supplements.

Nope didnt even pee in a cup or anything. They just sent me on my way and this place isnt that busy...they dont get paid by how many patients they see....I go to a military clinic...my next appt is in a week and i get to see one of the docs that I like. He's been very good about explaining things to me. So im hoping he will be able to explain things.

140 isn't that bad.

The resident is a doctor....there's really nothing to worry about.

At 5 weeks you'd just see a black hole.

Did you explain that you were on injectable progesterone and that you need to have levels drawn to check it?

She took your blood pressure and got the baby's heart beat, so that's not true.
