re: Is he ready for cereal?

posted 4th Feb
OP: My LO was doing same type of thing, drinking lots and still acting like he was hungry. As I did with my other two kids, I gave him cereal, but I would mix the cereal with the formula from his bottle and then give him the rest of the bottle. That way he was still getting all the nutrition from the formula. Giving cereal doesnt help them sleep through the night, they will do that when they are ready. But I did find that giving the cereal would at least hold him longer. Disregard the cereal haters on here. Fact is, its your baby and you should do what you feel is right for your baby.

Being educated on infant nutrition with facts we have given her will help her make the best decision for her baby. Ignoring scientific fact isn't about personal preference or parenting styles. She now k ows it has no nutritional value and serves no purpose except as filler (which is unnecessary for babies without reflux). What she does with that info is up to her, but please don't tell her to ignore facts. That's just ridiculous.

Facts change on a daily basis. What is fact now won't be tomorrow. She can make her own decision yes, she was asking for advice, which is what we all gave. We all have a right to disagree with one another. I gave my experience and FYI, my kids turned out great, even with giving cereal. And we all most likely got cereal early as babies and we are still here.

I don't think its the fact of hating cereal because I honestly don't. I just don't think people should give it to soon unless there is a reason and the dr suggests it. My son would not be on cereal right now if it weren't for his reflux he would only getting breastmilk but being in the 95th at birth to now below the 10th% for his wegiht not holding food down and being in severe pain from the reflux the doctors thought it would be best for him. As far as it keeping him fuller longer we only get an extra hour in between some of his feedings. You are correct though about it not helping sleeping through the night many people seflishly will feed their baby just to try and get a full nights rest and a baby will not sleep through the night until he or she is ready!

Facts don't change. They evolve as we learn MORE. Why live life based on old information? That's like thinking the world is flat vs round. The world was NEVER flat, we just thought it was because we didn't know better!!!

Also its not every feeding we get an extra hour either just ever once in a while he still llikes to eat every 2 hours and sometimes wants to eat in an hour and a half.

Uncalled for, really. Be more mature than that. My babies my choices and my babies are all just fine. Just cause you don't agree does not give you the right to call me an idiot. Just cause I don't follow what you are doing doesn't make me an idiot, makes me smart actually for following what I feel is right for MY babies.

Im not a hater....Ive educated myself. There is not one good reason to give a child empty calorie cereal. Its that simple.

If you or OP want to give your babies peanut butter and lollipops on with it, doesnt bother me none, but dont come here bashing me for knowing facts.

You're not "smart" because you gave you kids cereal with no known issues (who knows if they'll be obese later), you're "lucky"

Quoting One proud mommy!:" My son is 11 weeks old last Friday, and I was wondering if it's okay to give him cereal this early? He ... [snip!] ... on Advanced so I figured it was worth him spitting up so he wouldn't get constipated. So is it alright for him to have cereal?"

Also I meant to say I had family members trying to force me to give my daughter cereal due to how much and often she was eating and I refused there was no reason to give it to her! Once she was old enough and we did start she puked it all up so she only got it once and we just started baby food! I am also one of those people who follows doctors recomendations and my daughters pedi stressed the fact to wait till 6 months of age..

Actually there are studies that show it is better to give your children small amounts of peanut butter before they are a year old if there are no allergies to nuts within the family, it lessens the likelyhood of them developing allergies later in life because they have been exposed to small amounts of it. Never the less, I chose to give my baby cereal because he would eat a full bottle and then an hour later scream for more, then an hour later more and then an hour later more. So much so he would just throw up because his tummy was too full. Man I hate mothers who push their beliefs on others and criticize others if they are going a different direction.
