constantly exhausted kid & doctor visit
posted 4th Feb
There's something up with my 5 year old. She goes to bed at 8 and usually sleeps until 6:30 or 7am and gets a short nap from 3 to 4. She gets a daily vitamin and eats very well, she doesn't like most meat but she gets a lot of protein and iron rich foods to replace it. The last few weeks she's been waking up still tired, she has dark circles under her eyes, her teacher said she's not as active during playtime and usually chooses to sit with her after a few minutes of play saying she's too tired. My first thought is it's most likely anemia, which her father and I both struggle with. But I give her the vitamins and watch her diet specifically to keep her iron levels up, so idk. Is there anything else that it might be that I should bring up with her doc too?

Could be a growth spurt. Does anyone in your family have thyroid issues?

Not as far as I know. But aren't thyroid issues tied to weight? She's had consistent growth her while life, she's a little on the dainty side but that's from her dad.

Yeah low rbc is anemia. That's probably what it is and she'll have to take another vitamin

I would call the pedi...something could be going on. It would be best to have her checked out.
The other thing is maybe try putting her to bed half am hour earlier??? Then an hour.
If she is anemic she may need something stronger than a vitamin.

Not necessarily. For me I can tell when mine is acting up because I feel exhausted constantly. And they've said because mine is auto-immune that ill have to get DD checked too.

Oh sorry...I think if you tell the md what is going on he/she may order some blood work to start putting the puzzle together.
It could be a lot of things..growth spurt, anemia. I hope it is nothing serious...keep us updated.
