8 month old having nightmares?

posted 4th Feb
My son is gonna be 8 months tomorrow. We don't yell or scream in front of him. He doesn't watch tv and if he does it's a cartoon that SO put on to watch with him like "Toy Story". He's never been with anyone but me and my sister and SO.

He recently (in the past few weeks) has woken up either screaming or crying. He's terrified of whatever he dreamed about. There's times he wakes up shaking, like he just saw the most terrifying thing ever. I'm worried about him because I thought he was too young to have these terrifying nightmares. Is it possible? Even if we don't show him anything scary or anything? Should I ask his doctor? I'm a first time mom so this is new, I'm just worried.

My LO wakes up screaming sometimes(he's 5 months) during the day. I don't know if its a nightmare but it seems like it. So I guess it's possible.

I hope it's nothing but geez some of his screams scare the crap out of me, especially since I'm asleep 90% of the time he does it.

Is he awake when he cried or he's still asleep?

He's asleep when he screams or cries but then he picks up his head and continues crying until I pick him up to comfort him. I rock him back to sleep and sometimes he'll do it again or he'll just sleep the rest of the night with no problems.

They can have them that young? I thought something triggered night terrors? I could be wrong I really don't know.

Night terrors. They are triggered by going from one sleep phase to another. They don't see images or anything.

I just Googled it and read that they can be caused by stress, fear, and sleep deprivation.

What does that mean? Explain! lol I'm so paranoid.
What triggers it if they don't see images? <<<Serious question.

Well he's a super happy baby, and he naps during the day. I really don't know what he can fear
Toy Story really isn't all that scary and that's the only thing he's seen on TV.

Does anyone ever fight around him, etc? Is he ever in stressful environments?

Lol ok so there's different stages when you fall asleep. Well when baby switches to another sleep stage it happens usually happens during non-rem (no rapid eye movement) it triggers it. They don't remember anything because during non-rem you don't dream.

Well......My SO's niece is really loud, with her talking and laughing and it does scare him sometimes. Other than that there's no yelling or arguing in front of him. I know when I was pregnant with him me and SO always argued.
