I'm pretty sure my Dr. stripped mine at my last appt. and I'm 37 weeks. She didn't tell me she was going to do it, but from what I experienced, it felt way more intense than just checking my cervix. I think her reasoning would be that I'm trying for a VBAC and she won't induce a VBAC with Pitocin, so she wants to get things started.

I've never had a dr. do a sweep. They don't all do it.

Here they don't do it till you're already in the hospital, if you're not progressing or you're being induced. I had one after 28 hours of labour (hadnt progressed past 1cm) and the midwife also didnt tell me what she was going to do! I just thought she was checking for dilation again + didn't think much of it, next minute I was like wtf are you doing??? She was apologetic for not warning me but pointing out if I'd known I'd probably have tensed up or something. Another one broke my waters later also without telling me what she was going to do, seems to their thing up in that hospital!
