WWYD- child to a college class
posted 3rd Feb
I have class tomorrow from 9am-about 11, and no one who can watch my son. It's pretty important that I be there, so I'm debating if I should email the prof. and ask if I can bring him with me? The classes are each about an hour long, he's almost 4, can sit still for a long time and concentrate on coloring or "reading" or an app on my phone, so I could bring him that and set him up quietly in the desk next to me? It's just lectures.
On the other hand, of course it's going to be a distraction if he's there at all bc it's a 4 year old in a class filled with people in their early 20's, and I don't want to seem rude or disrespectful by asking the professor if I can bring him?

I think it's very rude. I would be pissed if someone brought a child with them to a class I was in.

Is it like a university? My school specifically has in their syllabus to not bring your children lol I could never bring mine. And he's 4. He'd distract everyone.

I don't think that I would take my 3 year old to class. And I don't think I would really appreciate it if a fellow classmate did it either...

I'd be pissed if I were another student in that class. Find a babysitter. Craigslist? Care.com neighbor? Church?

I am sure that the school would have a policy about having children there. And I would be PISSED if my instructor let another student bring their 4 year old to class.

I wouldn't.
I saw a mum at uni trying to take her son into class and got told off.

You are a college student, it is your job... You don't bring your kids to work, and you don't bring your kids to class. I have had the same issue when my daughter was really sick, and it was a MUST to be there that day... I emailed my prof., did the work the night before and brought my child with me to turn in the work, then I left.

I would never bring Ainsley, just because I know how distracted I'd be if someone were to bring their child into a class I was in. Also, my school has that in their policies, no child in the classroom unless it's to drop stuff off, or pick something up, etc.

I've seen a few students who have had to bring their kid to school with them.
Some times things happen and a baby sitter can't be reached. Ask your prof. ahead of time.
I never given the kid a second thought when I seen them sitting there. They usually don't even make a peep.
I've even had an instructor bring like his 5 year old to our Final lab exam.
and this isn't a sit down and write exam. We have to set up ventilators and bipap machines so it was crucial that the instructor would have to keep all his focus on us.
