When will this swelling go down?!?!
posted 3rd Feb
I gave birth Friday, and my ankles are soooo swollen today. I remember this happening with my son too but idr how long it lasted.
It's driving my crazy! How long did it last for you and what can I do to help it?
I guess I should probably start with hydrating a little better.

I was swollen for a good two weeks after birth. It was terrible.

It lasted about 10 days with #2. I think a lot of it was from the IV fluids. Congrats on the baby hope he's doing well.

Ugh I had a TON of IV fluids. 3 bags right after delivery.
Thanks! He's doing soooo good. I was only 30 weeks so he'll be in the NICU for a while but other than that he's doing great for his age.

I know I've been wayyyy too busy to even make a post. I'm going to try tomorrow once I get access to a computer so I can post all the pictures I have too.
He weighed 2lb 14.8 ounces and was 14 1/4 inches long. He is so tiny but he's doing amazing, and has a head full of blonde hair!!
He put me through hell for DAYS though. I was in labor for so long, it kept stopping and starting. At one point I got to 4cm so they put me on magnesium because it's suppposed to help with bleeding in the brain in preemies but it stopped my labor. It started again slowly, they checked me again at some point and I was still a 4. They didn't want to keep checking me until they had to because of the broken waters and possibility of infection, so they said once I started to feel pressure to tell them. Wellll I started to feel pressure and my moans turned to straight out bloody murder screams so they checked me and I was 10cm I pushed him out in about 10 minutes. He was sunny side up AND cheek first so he has a swollen and bruised cheek and eye.
Then my placenta wouldn't freaking detach so they had to reach inside me and pull it out piece by piece. I didn't have any pain meds, and I think I screamed louder than I did during labor lmao
Anyway, Creedence is doing great! He has a little assistance breathing with the nose tube oxygen thingies, and he's in an incubator to keep his temp up and also under the blue lights for jaundice but within the next week or so I'm expecting all of that to be over with.
He's also eating colostrum through a feeding tube every three hours and doing great with it!
It's really hard to pump all the time and I'm terrified of losing my supply but hopefully in a few weeks we can get him latched on!

First - Congratulations!!!
Second - It took me like three weeks. The IVs kill me. Right now I'm a week post op from having my gall bladder removed and I'm swollen from that, too.

I think the rule of thumb for all NICU babies is like 35-36 weeks gestational age so since he was born at 30 weeks, he'll probably be there 5-6 weeks, possibly longer.

My sister was a 24 weeker and i remember goiong to the hospitl every single day for 4 months until she came home and now she is 13 next month ugh i cant believe it! Also my mom Breastfed for 2 years even when they all told her she would never latch.

Yeah they told me he won't be able to latch until like 35 weeks gestational age so 5 weeks old, but I read in a book some babies can latch as early as 30 which is when he was born as long as they're breathing on their own. So as soon as his breathing is stable, which I'm hoping will be in the next week or so, I'm going to push to keep trying. He sucks on a paci so... I don't see why he can't latch at least for just a few sucks in the beginning.

i was swollen for about a week. The nurse told me to drink a coke one or twice a day and that would help with swelling. i did and it did go down and my legs stopped hurting.
Congrats on little one. I'd keep pushing to nurse too. try to remember to pump every 3 to 4 hours even if its just for 5 to 10 minutes so you dont lose your supple. You can do this you've came so far with all your struggles.
