Tax question (ladies who file not just by the book I know yo

So., me and my bf have been living together for almost a year. I finally got my w2 's and my step moms, mother had said we could possibly file our taxes together. But was going to find out and never answered. I want to get them done this week. Dies anyone know if we could file together even if we aren't married. I have two kids also she said because he has been basically the main bacon home bringer lol

No. He could file head of household if he meets the criteria.

No you cannot file together if you are not married.

there's no real benefit of filing jointly. why do you want to?

I think he can claim you as a dependant possibly, depends on your income. But he could claim your kids if they live in the same house.

DH's ex's bf is claiming DH's son this year.

He can claim you two as dependents that's about it.

There's actually a huge difference if we file together. HUGE. I haven't worked since mid August, so I'm basically another dependant which is why I think they said we may be able to file together.

Filing together and him claiming you as a dependent are two different things.

You cannot file together because you are not married. You have to file your taxes seperately than his. So that shouldn't even be a question.

If he supported you and your child for more than half the year then he can claim you and your child as a dependent.
