Heater Core

posted 3rd Feb
Does anyone have an idea how much it cost for a heater core (or whatever it is) for your car?

Mine is out, so my car doesn't have heat.

I know for a fact that's what is out. but need ideas on pricing.
google isn't helping and the shops are closed today.

The part it's self is cheap. Like 45-60. Getting it changed though is expensive because it's a pain in the ass to change.

I did google prices and I seen them around $60 for the year & model of my car.

I only paid 30 for mine. But the shop wanted 800 to put it in. Thank goodness for knowing a mechanic !

I'd rather pay $400 than have 2 kids in a car without heat in this freezing weather, though.
I was planning $1000 for it to be done. :/

My friend's step dad owns a local shop here, and I was thinking of going to them.
Usually, they get me 50% off labor for simple things to be done. so maybe I can try them again.

My dad did mine, the part was $50. It took him 17 hours and he had to disassemble my entire dash. The shop wanted $1500

My grandpa could do mine, but he's older now.. and I'd hate for him to go through the trouble doing it. UNLESS I'd be paying a smurf ton to get done.

No, he's just in his 60's and has worked on just about everything else for me.
He said he could do it, but I'd have to plan a whole weekend for him to tear it apart, replace and put back together. but it'd have to be warm enough for him to do since he doesn't have a garage anymore. so I'd have to wait a little while longer.

I asked about his back because there is a lot of bending involved. Are you sure it is the heater core and not the blower motor?

Yea, the blower motor works.
My grandpa already checked everything out.
He's a retired mechanic so he has all the tools to test everything and all that jazz. I just didn't have the money to replace it at the time, so he didn't worry about looking up the cost or anything else for me.
