Wow it sounds like you've had some very bad advice from some uninformed nurses. I'm sorry you're having such a rough start.
A breastfed newborn wants to nurse ALL day and night. My son nursed every 45 minutes to an hour for the first month of his life. Totally normal.
You do NOT need to supplement with formula. He is getting plenty.
Newborns can make anywhere from 8-15 diapers a day.
Yellow, seedy, runny poop in a breastfed baby means he's HEALTHY.
Follow these rules of thumb:
- Put your baby to the breast as often as possible. Every cry, whimper, etc. -- give him the boob.
- Do not supplement with formula.
- It's healthy for your baby to use your breasts as pacifiers.
- He is getting plenty.
