RSV :(

posted 3rd Feb
So my poor baby has RSV. I'm having a reeaaallly hard time seeing her like this. She can barely breath, has a constant fever, it's hard to get her to nurse because she can't breath through her nose, and she has a really hard time sleeping. We've been to the hospital 2 days in a row now and they finally sent us home with a nebulizer/oxygen machine. We have gone through the works. I prefer to give her natural, and homeopathic meds if necessary, but finally broke down and gave her tylenol to get her 103 temp down!! It is so scary for me to see her get that hot. Me and her have taken showers together and hung out in the steam, to try and give her some relief. I have a humidifier going all day, and give her Tugaboos brand vapor baths. I've been giving her water here and there but I know you have to be careful because too much water can really hurt an infant. She's just turned 6 months on the 27th. She hates it but I "boogie suck" her often and saline spray her nose to keep it liquid so she can breath better. I just wonder if there's anything else I can do for her. I hate seeing her suffer like this!! I worry that it could progress into pneumonia if it doesn't get better.

My son had this recently too...it's horrible. He's 2.5 though so a little easier to deal with. However he did have a nasty bout of a cold when he was little little and his dr suggested I place a towel or 2 under his crib mattress so that his head was a bit elevated while sleeping. It helps things drain and helps with any coughing etc. to this day, when he gets sick I prop him up. Only now he's in a twin bed with a pillow so I just use a second pillow. I'm not sure where u live, but also if u live somewhere cold(I live in frosty Manitoba Canada lol) it helps open their airways to bundle them up and spend 5-10 min outside. Wrapping her in a blanket and breathing in freezer air is another alternative! Good luck!

I've never heard that. Interesting. I live in northern California, so we get freezing temperatures but nothing like what you experience I'm sure lol. Thank you though. I will try that.

lol Yea. I talked to her pediatrician, he said it was a "hit and miss" kinda thing, it can work but the chances of it worsening her illness and causing pneumonia are equal. I think the nebulizer gave her cold air to breathe while also helping open her airways. She's much better now. It's been about 2 days. She's still a bit congested and her cough is hanging around but she's doing soo much better. Thank you for your good wishes though.
