we have a show here called can of worms and its one of the questions they are asking so i thought i would put it out there
to me being an organ donor is a no brainer as i cant take them with me when im gone , i would also give an organ if i matched someone and it could help them

if the woman was a donor then it shouldnt matter

i just think that we need to do something to make it easier for these people that are on the waiting lists for years

I'm using a woman because that's continuity seeing as it was a woman that I started the story with but it could be anyone. That is my point why should anyone be forced to die unnecessarily because they're not on a organ donor list? Well ok then seeing as you don't think that it's that much of a big deal and you think oh whatever it would just suck I guess you'd be just fine with it happening to your Husband then? You say yourself he isn't on the organ donor list so if this law was in effect right now and your Husband found out tomorrow he was going to die if he didn't get a new kidney this would happen to him. By law they couldn't give him it so he would just be forced to die a slow and painful death, even though they could save him and you're just going to be like "Oh well dear you really should've signed up, happy dying!!" and move on?  

I don't think it would be a good idea to require organ donor status in order to receive a needed transplant. I think organ donation isn't something we think about until we're faced with having to make that choice for a loved one--or until we or a loved one needs an organ transplant. I became a donor after my uncle died, and his family started receiving thank you notes from all the people his organs had saved. It helped us all see the happier side of his death, knowing that parts of him lived on and kept so many other families from losing loved ones.

DH, however, had never put any thought into it (having never gone through that situation), and didn't really consider it until we'd had a conversation about it one day. He wasn't being selfish or anything; it's just not something that's talked about very often, and people really don't know how important it is.

Mandatory donation isnt the answer. I dont know what is but thats not it. I would like to see better education around the subject and more campaigning but you cannot force people to give away their organs, where do you draw the line? Menopausal women forced to donate eggs/ovaries? it just wouldnt work x

exactly where would you draw the line? Would people not be able to receive a blood transfusion unless they donated blood? Would women who had previously had an abortion not be allowed to pursue IVF treatment? It's just ridiculous IMO.

oh i agree with you , it was just something that came up on the tv and i thought it may make more people donate

and i dont want to sound stupid ( but i prob will lol ) but when you reach menopause doesnt that mean you have no eggs left , so what would you donate , i could be wrong but thats what i always thought

Thats the big picture isn't it. The whole idea scares me as much as i am for organ donation and can see the OP's POV it just doesnt work as a law, morally yes its kind of fair but ugh my brain hurts...

So you want to do a D&D but you don't want to look at what would actually happen? You want your question answered but only if the answer is a blind "yes what a great idea!" but without actually weighing up the pros and cons and consequences of each?

Well oooook then a D&D with no actual debate and discussion, yes I can see how that will work.

Good point. Especially with blood donations--you can't donate blood for a certain amount of time after getting tattoos or piercings, so then there'd probably end up being rules about that sort of thing too. Just too many things could go wrong or have to be addressed.

no i wasn't just looking for people to agree with me , it was a question and as you can see i seem to be the only one in this thread that will say yes its a good idea , everyone else can get their point across without trying to be a smart arse

can you see how that works , having a discussion and not getting all pissy when i think something different to you
and having to do the eye rolls or the shock face , you seem to be the only one that has to do them

i can debate and discuss with anyone but when the discussion starts to go is circles what is the point , you think what you do and no matter what i say i will always be wrong

Exactly. My 20 year old cousin went to give blood and was told you need to be a certain weight and she was 7lb below so wasn't allowed so should she be refused a blood transfusion and forced to die if she needed one? Also in the UK gay men cannot donate blood either so should all gay men be left to die if they need a blood transfusion?

No you still have eggs your body just stops ripening them, Im not 100% sure on the actual numbers but most women are born with about a 400.000 Ovum they ovulate - an egg is ripened and released into the womb and if the egg is not fertilised it is shed with the womb lining , At the end of a womans reprodutive life she will still have a few thousand left
