choking toddler ok?

I have a 2 yr old and when we gave him his meds tonight he started to choke on it (like it went down the wrong way) but it's been 2 hours ago and he is still coughing. He wasn't coughing before the meds. He is sleeping but still coughing and breathing fast. Not sure if I'm just overreacting or not?

Does his breathing sound raspy? What are the meds for? If he has a fever, he will automatically breathe faster, that is part of it.

the meds are for his allergies and he hasn't been sick recently. and no not raspyjust faster than normal especially for sleeping

Has he had anything to drink since?

He had a drink of water right after the major coughing fit was over but that was it.
