Its not ignorant its my honest answer. In my area there are "homeless" people on every corner and I have seen quite a few give up and go jump into their cars and drive off as the next person walks up. Yes some people are legit homeless and it breaks my heart but yes I shared my honest usual first reaction. I dont believe the majority are in need of help I believe the ones that truly need the help are the exception not the rule.

I dont really think either of those.

I usually see if I have anything to offer them. I dont care so much if they are hungry, an addict, mentaly ill or a millionnaire scamming. All I know is we are all humans, and need to have compassion for everyone and treat others how we want to be treated.

I've been shot down by them several times not even getting a call lol. I have experience, and work history and still nada.

Been there, done that myself personally so I tend to be extremely sympathetic. We have a dear friend who is a horrible alcoholic and homeless. We invite him over, buy him a few drinks and fix him up a hot meal. You would never believe how much a little kindness, sans judgment, can change the course of their day or week.

Over the past December there was a family sitting outside a walmart parking lot with the dad holding a sign saying 'no money for Christmas presents'. They had a little girl with them about. 2 years old. God tugged on my heart and i drove home, wrapped two presents i had planned to put in a toys for tots bin (teaparty set and pretend food set) and took it up there to them. I just hope their little girl enjoyed the gifts   made me feel super good.

That's what I think. I sit there for a minute and wonder "what events in their life have led them to this point?"

Many McDonald's, along with other fast food restaurants, are becoming very strict and picky with their hiring practices. Just because they are hiring doesn't mean you can get a job with them.

Around here, you're not qualified to flip a smurfing burger there if you have any kind of criminal record, and unfortunately a high percentage of America's homeless population has a record.

I will not give a homeless person money, however I will buy them food and a few times I went into the 99 cent store and bought $10 worth of food (like crackers, juice boxes, other food that won't go bad) and given them the whole bag. I used to give a man a dollar everytime I saw him near my old job, I had to stop and get gas one day and I watched him climb into the same make and model of car as me (not super expensive, I drive a 2005 VW Passat) and pull out an IPhone and start counting money. I was pissed and am admittedly jaded now.

They made choices that put them in that situation. Yes I know there are exceptions and sometimes people do truly need the help. If I have a few bucks in the car which is rare because I never carry cash I will give it to them. Food/drugs/booze/rent/car payment whatever they spend it on is none of my business. The poll asked what we thought and I was very honest in my reply as to what my first thought was.

Generally I think new friend lol.
I like homeless people as long as I don't get bad vibes I'll spend my time with them. Maybe offer food or when I smoked I'd hand out my cigs.

Aw that is upsetting. People like that make ot hard for decent people who hve fallen on hrd times to try to climb back up. Try not to be jaded. There are genuine people who would sincerely appreciate any form of help. It's sad peope take advantge of hardworking people like that guy.

Honestly I just hope they don't walk up to me. I am always with my daughter and have pretty bad anxiety about people trying to take her, not that I'm saying a homeless person would steal her, but just in general.

I've had a few bad experiences with homeless people that have made me very wary to trust them.

Generally I just feel sad for them and ask if they'd like me to get them something at the nearest food place. Once I talked with this really sweet woman who had a dog(2 actually but her fiancee had the other with him) they moved her to start new, but ended up not finding work and living in their van. ANYWAY, Charlotte helped me bring the food, she got to pet her sweet dog, and I got to chat a bit with the nice woman. They're people too, and I think talking with them and giving them food is better than just handing them money.

Like I said I will go buy them a meal, when it has been cold out I have bought them a scarf, gloves, and a hat, in the summer a baseball cap and 2 big bottles of water. But I am not comfortable handing money over still, I know it may not be fair that one smurf burned all of them but it really jaded me.
