For those of you who have had a water birth, did you smurf in the water? A water birth seems appealing to me for our next and the only thing I can't get over is possibly smurffing in the water and what if it's not solid? Then if you do smurf yourself do you have to drain the water and fill the tub/pool back up?

I did not.

I havent had a water birth, but i have watched a lotttt and havent seen them poop themselves. Most of the women had clearing of the bowels earlier before they got in. You can always keep a mini fishy net to pluck any chunks out

Well that's good. Were you told what would happen if you did? I don't know if you gave birth at home or in a birthing center, but would you/they have had to drain and refill?

OMG! That is exactly what I envisioned if I did then I'd have to yell for DH to get the net.  

I'm not trying to make fun of anyone so I hope no one gets offended, I'm just curious.

I don't think I'd consider it much of a concern. Out of 4 kids, I've only pooped once.

Lol! I am so serious too, i bought one just in case. However we didnt even blow up the pool.

It wasn't something we discussed. I've always read if it's solid they just scoop it out and go about business. Not sure about diarrhea.

Did you have water births? I gave birth in a hospital, in a bed, and I'm fairly certain that I did, but no one can confirm. I'm not concerned about actually pooping myself, it happens. I'm more concerned about what to expect if you poop in the water that you're going to deliver in. Is it still just poop or is it an issue since you're in the water?

However, I did just read on something I found on Google that even the not so solid stuff can be gotten out with a sieve.

But the thought I can't get out of mind now, is cuddling your baby moments after birth, turning to look at your SO and being greeted rather with a floating turd at your shoulder.

Haha! I decide to spare BG with the convo that my friend and I were having about the "what ifs" of pooping during a water birth, but I was telling her I would die of embarrassment if we video taped it and a huge turd floated by during a close up of the baby in the water.
