The pamphlet I got after DD was born said even bouncing a baby on your knee can cause it

Agreed.

I didn't watch the video, but saw something similar on Tosh.0. How is this even legal? Why would someone do that to a child, intending to help them? Would be slung around help YOU calm down?

As for why it wouldn't cause shaken baby syndrome, it's because the SBS is caused by the brain rapidly hitting the skull, the "gentle" swinging they are doing wouldn't cause the same trauma.

Aside from the extreme dropping hazard (like the mom that tried it in yoga ladies video posted who almost dropped the baby) I would be concerned with shoulder dislocation. And the baby in the OP's video had no neck control and she was letting it's neck be at such bad angles!

I can understand that some places would have thier reasons for thinking it would work, but why would anyone want to risk it?
