No, ending religion wouldn't stop war and suddenly cause peace.
Humans literally are always bitching, finding something to fight over. Wars haven't been started exclusively over religion.
However, I'm still a firm believer in separation of church and state. Religious views should have no influence over any policy, because it's not fair to make all religions follow one religion's beliefs and rules made with it's influence.
If people would make laws and live life based on a logical approach and make decisions based on logic and not influenced by emotion, I think smurf would improve.

As far as early laws not being as "tough", have you actually read the Code of Hammurabi? That is where the whole "eye for an eye" thing came from....

The laws were not as tough? Are you kidding me ... seriously? What about Aboriginal law ... they are laws centred on culture and tribe rather than religion and they SPEAR each other for trespassing.

How can you believe in the commandments but not religion/God? That makes no sense. Of course people would still be punished for crimes. Again, you don't need religion to know right from wrong and what's moral or not...

Considering that 4 of the 10 directly reference God and/or religion, I would say that believing in God/religion is a pretty much a requirement....

Nope. World Peace can NEVER exist, even if religion disappears altogether. Humans are bitchy whiny annoying creatures.Religion is really only an excuse to bitch. We NEED to find something to complain and argue about, nothing is ever good enough. If there was no religion to bicker or murder over, we would find something else to fight about - like what kind of vegetable goes best with pork, or something equally ridiculous. Personally, I think people should just calm their nuts, and ignore the things in life they don't like or don't agree with. This isn't the lala-land full of rainbows, gumdrops and unicorns- we will always disagree on certain subjects- The world doesn't revolve around YOU and YOUR belief system, and THAT is the truth.

People justify things they do with religion, but that is because they want to do those things, not because religion told them to. The most horrendous things can be justified via religion while that same person ignores most of the rest of what that same religion teaches.
