Quoting Kimber's Mommy:" i plan on rear facing as long as DD fits and meets the requirements. i was wondering about their legs, ... [snip!] ... about their legs, too. is that really not uncomfortable for them? idk how long she'll last rear facing. she's pretty tall. lol."
Check out the first page on my post. Someone else asked the same question and I responded. In any case, I'd rather his legs break, than his neck in an accident. Toddlers are flexible and he NEVER complains of his legs. He crosses them, kicks them over the seat, kicks them to the sides, rests them on the seat, etc. He's fine with it and he's got long legs.

Quoting Thorian's Mommy:" I have a mini van so as long as it fits in the single side seat then we are good. I probably go even ... [snip!] ... out of it all the time. But it what we are doing and im happy.   Im still going to look around at other types of seats though."
If you have a Babies R Us, go look at the Graco My Size 70 also known as the HeadWise 70 or Size4Me 70 (at Target)...same seat, different names. It's an awesome seat. It's the one Christopher is in in these pictures. We like it and he is super comfortable in it. It's got the tallest shell on the market so it lasts longest rear facing if you kid is lengthy but doesn't gain weight quickly otherwise they suggest the Diono or Foonf.

My five year old was about 38 inches when we switched him FFing. He sat "pretzel" style, put his legs to the side or up over the seat and never complained about it. He actually was uncomfortable when we switched, saying that he didn't know what to do with his legs because they just "hung" there, lol.

I think that's more to do with being 5 and their bones ossifying and not being so naturally flexible anymore. Most kids are that height at a much younger age so they're still more flexible and comfy at that point. DS is tall at i think 42 inches and 3.5 years but he's still flexible so it's not a problem yet. I know some kids who get the choice would rather RF because when FF their legs dangle with no support and get pins and needles etc.

He wanted to stay rearfacing because it was more comfortable for him.
