He turned 2 in November, and pretty much non-verbal. He's been in speech therapy for a while, but they've already decided to switch him to a speech therapist that deals exclusively with autistic kids. He says maybe...Maybe 5 words. He doesn't use words or point to indicate things he wants. He cries, screams, stomps, growls, throws tantrums, etc and it's basically a race to see how fast we can figure out what he wants before he hurts himself.
LO has actually never really been into shoes until he started fancying these boots. He usually hated them but these boots are just spectacular to him.

We can more than likely continue on with the boots until we at least get a diagnosis. They've always been pretty understanding before, but they're also very strict so I'm not sure how long I can ride it out unless I get a doctor's note.

Could it be that along with the look of the boots he likes, it's the way they feel that has him so attached, too? The two boots I've seen all seem to be fairly loose about the feet. Roomy, if that explains it better. Plus the feeling of it being around his ankles and calves may feed some kind of sensory issue that's linked to his suspected autism? I'm going out on a limb here with this idea, and I'm not sure if your DS has sensory issues but I know they'd not uncommon for kids o. The spectrum.

That could be it, possibly, I'm not entirely sure.
He's never really showed signs with sensory problems up until...Last week I think? I wore a new pair of gloves, he didn't like the texture and freaked out bad. The next day I wore a different pair of gloves and he was fine.

Like I said, I don't know if he has sensory issues. Just throwing it out there, though.

Here is my theory-if he does have autism and you don't set rules in stone now, then you will have one hell of a battle later. My kid is 4, non-verbal (except the other day , he spoke, yeah!!!) and he constantly takes his pants off, and whines about his shirt, socks etc..-but the rules are that you have to wear clothes, so I relentlessly replace his pants and distract, and redirect him. All of his therapists agree-whatever you let them get away with it will be twice as hard to correct later. And although snow boots now aren't a big deal, what about summer, lol.
