100.5 fever.

posted 2nd Feb
I noticed my 2 year old has been warmer then usual today, I waited a bit to see if maybe she was just playing hard, but she's still warm she has a small fever (100.5) she isn't acting sick or anything, just warm, would you give her something for the fever or just leave her?

Leave it alone for now. Keep an eye out for other symptoms (lethargy, malaise, etc). That's hardly a fever.

100.5 is not really even a fever. I dont give meds until 102 unless there is pain with the fever.

Under her arm and on her forehead with a temp strip.

ALSO, whether it's hardly a fever or not she feels like she's burning up, any "type" of fever is a concern for me.........

I wouldn't give her anything, a temp is part of the healing process, it increases the number of white cells your body sends out, so taking down the temp means limiting the white cells she has to fight infection with. I only give meds when it gets dangerously high like 104-105

She's acting fine. Still eating and drinking as normal? Using the restroom well? The fever is there to help her body fight off whatever bug it's got.

A low grade fever is the bodies way of fighting off infections. If she isnt in pain or showing any other symptoms I would just keep an eye on it. Make take her temp with a real thermometer I never trust those strips for an accurate reading.

let her body fight off whatever is causing her to be a little warmer than usual.

Yeah, I don't really either. I used that one first then used a digital one under her arm pit.

She will probably be just fine with no meds. Just keep a watchful eye for changes in her demeanor and where the temp is. I know sick kids are worrisome, but if she's running around and eating as normal it's a very good sign!

Okay I'll do that then.
She's only ever had a fever one other time and it was horrible, 103-104 and she just wanted to lay around and wouldn't eat anything ): so it worries me when she gets fevers.

A number is not a 'type' of fever, rather it means that she may be warm but it's only just barely into what they would even classify as a fever and the number has a lot to do with how serious it is, temp of 100 would barely make anyone blink without other symptoms, a temp of 107 regardless of other symptoms will set nurses running.
Plus your physical perception of her heat has just as much to do with your temperature
