I'm not quite sure if this is the right place to post this question but I'm going to give it a shot.

I am concerned about a drug test that my doctor said she is going to be preforming on my newborn daughter. I found out I was pregnant when I was 20 weeks and 6 days ( October 3, 2012 ) my husband and I were pretty heavy pot smokers before that but we made a desicion to quit smoking approx a month before I found out I was pregnant ( September 10, 2012 ). Now, we had a slip up here recently and it lasted one week exactly. ( January 11 - January 18, 2013 ) No I am not proud and I feel horrible about this and there is no justification as to why I did it but I did. I ended up having to go to the hospital the begining of last week for contractions that turned out to be braxton hicks. But while I was there they did a toxicology screen on me, what reasonable cause they had I dont know, but my doctor then told me it came back positive for THC -- obviously. She then said that there will be a drug test preformed on my daughter when she is born, My question is - the only time I have smoked during this pregnancy since I have known I was pregnant was a couple weeks ago and it only went on for one week. I am not, will not and dont not plan to smoke ever again & I was wondering if the THC would be out of mine and babys system by my due date Feb, 14 2013. I am worried about losing my daughter. And like I said, I know it was stupid, so dont tell me how stupid I am. But I dont think this one slip up should result in the loss of my child. Please help all positive help would be greatly appreciated. God Bless and Thank You to all whom help (:

Im not 100% sure but i think its roughly 30 days. If its in your system its in the babies. (Again not 100%) Im sure there are factors like how much you smoked and such.

It'll probably be in her system. Mostly her meconium(her first poop). I'm not sure what they would do though.

I think all you can really do is wait. I would think that after a month, any THC would be gone. Also, I haven't done any research on this at all, but I have heard that there has been research to suggest that it doesn't cross the placenta. I don't know how true that is, but it's something to hope for. Good luck.

If you don't slip up, probably not. And the baby wouldn't get taken away just like that, there would be a CPS investigation first if I'm not mistaken, and you may have to take drug tests and parenting classes.

I think it also depends on how much you weight. I have read ( not sure if its true) the more you weight the longer it takes to come out I your system.

Honey you are not the first person on this site to talk about smoking pot while being pregnant. I do wish you the best of luck and hope that everything goes good with your baby. You are human after all and we all make our own mistakes.

Truth. For an extremely overweight person, I can take up to 90 days.

I've read that too. It's stored in fat.

THC is stored in fat cells. So if you're heavier it takes longer to get out of your system. Not sure how that effects the baby's storage though. H/she doesn't have very much fat on him/her so it may be out by the time of birth. That's my guess. Best of luck.
