Bunny for a toddler?

posted 2nd Feb
I love rabbits. I had one for several years who was probably the best pet I could have ever asked for, super chill, easily housetrained, and loved people. I want another one terribly but I'm not positive that a 14 month old would be good for a bunny to be around. What age do you think would be best to get a rabbit for a child?

1 1/2 - 2 minimum.

We have one, he was an indoor bunny but was sooo stubborn with toilet training, even after we had him desexed, so now hes outside majority of the time & hops inside as he pleases

Much easier to clean that way!

Our son was about 18mo when we got him.

Hes a bigger breed so not as fragile should LO poke him etc lol!

Soooo friendly & loves his nose scratches/pats.

I definitely want a Giant breed lol. I'm just worried I got lucky with my first rabbit and no other rabbit will compare.

what breed was your first bun?

ours is a german lop.. so a bigger lop breed.

i wanted a french lop but no one has them in australia yet   .. a lady from the rabbit club is working on the breed, but hasn't perfected them yet.

usually the bigger the breed the more docile   - similar to dogs.

I'd get something more..... durable.... lol like a little sister. You can stick her in a cage and feed her carrots too.

I got her from a farm supply store so I'm not positive on the breed, I think she was an American shorthair though judging from pictures I've seen online of other shorthairs. Lops are so freaking cute! I think I might start searching for a rabbit to adopt when Zora's 2 or when we have our own place, whichever happens first

Yeah but those things cry, and their poop is more of a pain to clean up.

I think your Lo should do fine with the bunny but it really depends on the child and the animal's personalities. My son is three and he has three pet rats I know they are not for everyone but we love them and they will go on his shoulder and snuggle in his neck as he walks around and plays with his toys.
