OB told me to go to the ER for tooth pain

posted 2nd Feb
The on call midwife called me back about a possible abscess and lack of cooperation with my local dentist, and told me the only thing I can do, and the best thing to do, would be go to the ER. Has anyone ever gone to the ER for a tooth ache. Granted it's crossing/covering my entire left side of my face, and absolutely ridiculous as far as pain. But at the same time I don't feel like I'm dying and I hate being that person. I can't sit through this pain another day. What would they do antibiotics and pain medication? She said she would write them but being a midwife and not my actual OB she doesn't have that power. And said to go to the ER it was the "right" thing to do. When I mentioned wasting the ER's time. I guess they're worried about an abscess...

You need to be seen no matter what. If you can't get in with the dentist, then the ER is your next choice.

i'm going through the same thing, only i'm not pregnant. i was thinking about going to urgent care instead of the ER. but yes, you'll get antibiotics and pain meds, usually vicodin

i'd go. if it's an infection, like an abscessed tooth, you need antibiotics. those can turn bad quickly and even more so if you're pregnant.

Same thing happened to me when I was pregnant with D3. They will give you antibiotics and pain killers.

It can lead to an infection in your blood if left untreated to long. So yes you need to get on antibotics.

Thank you ladies. I just called my sister to take me in. So it'll either be an hour, or when SO gets off work around 4:30 or 5. My OB called me back quicker than when I thought my water had broken apparently it really is a big deal. I'd definitely like pain killers. But mostly the antibiotics. My mom always told me when given the choice between opiates and antibiotics she'd rather have the amox. Than vicodine. It's your best friend with an abscessed tooth.

Thanks for replying guys. I can't wait to feel better =3= Worse pain EVAR.
Until I go into labor. Which I was actually wishing for last night. It felt like labor in my face from the descriptions I get of how bad labor is.

This tooth will most likely have to be pulled or extracted it's turned towards my tongue now, and seems almost completely hollow. I have over crowding I'm wondering if my wisdoms are trying to come in, I can't see anything else turning a tooth... It's so painful. I could kill my mother for never taking me to a dentist. I wish I had my insurance as soon as I left home. 19 years old only been to the dentist one time for a cleaning and to be told I had a few minor cavities at 16. Now I'm 19 with a huge hole in my tooth! Pregnancy killed them man... I definitely can't wait to get to the ER. I just want to feel better.
