Yup! My kids know if they misbehave, or not hold my hand or onto the stroller we are going home and I'm going back out in public alone.

I personally would never use one. My kids hold my hand or go in the stroller, if they don't like it, we can go home. I don't think it's necessarily "lazy" for other people to use it, no lazier than using a stroller. I'd rather see somebody using a leash than losing their child if they can't keep ahold of their hand or push a stroller. To me it just reminds me of a dog on a leash, but it's not like the kid knows that or cares. To each their own, I would never do it though. But I'm not going to bash people that do use them, I just think it looks very silly when I see kids on leashes, it makes me giggle inside.

I used one after my younger daughter was born. My oldest wasn't quite 2 yet and I was out alone with them a lot because my husband worked a ton and there was no way I could chase after the older one and leave DD2 sitting in a cart. She would climb out of the cart, so I couldn't put her in there and I can't push a stroller and a cart. For me, it was a safety issue. Thought we didn't have to use it much.
Every kid is different. I don't see having to use one much, if at all, she's not as high spirited as her sister.

We use one when we take DD somewhere really crowded, however, it's not because she runs off or is high spirited. She holds hands and walks quite nicely. We use it because we don't trust OTHER people. It's one extra bit harder to pry a child away from a parent if they're attached by a long piece of heavy rope or fabric. It gives me one extra second to whip out my mace and get them to let go of my child.

I agree, that is quite the privilege.

I don't use them or would ever use them myself on my kids personally. Even though my 3 year old is hyper as all get out. But I do let his baby sitter use one when she takes her grandson to the bus stop, she has about 4 kids including 2 infants and 2 toddlers and it's near a busy intersection. My son will not sit still so if keeping him on a leash keeps him from running out in the road, i'm all for it.

I use it, i love it.. it gives me the peace of mind i need and the freedom she needs.. Her dad hates it, Refuses to use it..and he chases her around the store, while i shop.. its a win win..

With the way ethan is I would use one.
He likes to walk around but I'm so scared of someone just snatching him....sometimes he can just take off in a matter of seconds. I think the idea is great, I don't think there's a problem with using them at all. And I don't see why people r lazy if they use them. Its only for both their safety and their childs. BUT however, I don't think I would buy one. If one was given to me I would use it but its not something I would go buy. But I do think its great to. Teach your child to either sit in stroller/cart or hold on to your hand or stroller/cart.

I think i like you. ALOT.
We used a set of reigns when DD was first walking outside, I did BW alot and we no longer need them I also found them to be useful when she was still in that stumbly stage as if they fall and you have their hand you can pull their arms quite hard to stabilise them with reigns you have the straps under both arms and accross the back. I will use them next time too

I seriously can't believe what people ares so self important that they think they for one minute that their opinions matter over childrens own parents.

No, but they do! I think its because everyone wants to be the best parent they can and it hurts to be seen as wrong, so its not born outof spite but a need, does that make sense?

If we're walking a long distance (theme park, shopping, etc), I'll let her hold my hand but have the end of the backpack thing in my other hand. That way, I can just use the string for emergencies. We have one.. .I"ve used it once. Not a fan of it, but meh

I used to be one of those people who think "a leash is for a dog, and not kids." but when my kid stepped off the corner of the street as a car started to pass (it was his first time doing this ever) my husband went out and bought one, we like the ones that look like little back packs. when ever we go out for a walk (rather we use it or not) we tell him to get his little puppy back pack. that way we have it if we need it.
