Geez Rain, I dont know wtf is going on there. I asked one of the cops I use to work with what would happen here...as dispatcher I remember they would be sent in for an assesment at the hospital, at that point the doctor would see them and either give them a form 1 (72 hr observation) or release them.

I guess GA has different procedures, and thats a shame. I dont know what to tell you to get him some help...but on defense of the police, if its their protocol then they arent doing anything wrong. If I were you though I would call the hire up (her its the Staff Sergent, not sure about there) and talk with him/her to see if the officers are following protocol or not.

“A peace officer may take any person to a physician within the county or an adjoining county for emergency examination by the physician, or directly to an emergency receiving facility if (1) the person is committing a penal offense, and (2) the peace officer has probable cause for believing that the person is a „mentally ill person requiring involuntary treatment‟.”

Absolutely. When I was misdiagnosed as bipolar and they had me on a crap ton of meds, I got suicidal. My DH called the police and they did not give me a choice. They drug me to the mental hospital in downtown Phoenix for a Psych eval. I spent two weeks in there being monitored and getting my medication right. Found out I was not bipolar, just have GAD and Panic Disorder with Agoraphobia.
If the Officer knows for sure that the person threatened to kill themselves ( which you had it on tape) not to mention, he admitted it. They should have took him. They would have been ( or should have been) liable if something happened to him. Good luck Mama, to your DH as well. I know this is hard, but it is harder on him than it is on you....believe it or not.

when I was 16 a friend called the cops on me cause I was suicidal and all they did was come to check out if I had done anything yet, then they left. They only talked to me for like 5 minutes maybe.
