Police cannot just look the other way. I am outraged over what you have read. I would be livid with the officers and that policy. esp if someone took thier life after the police looked the other way

And I expressed that to the dispatcher, and to the officer. I said I didn't want anyone coming out if they weren't absolutely going to take him because I didn't want them to come, not take him, him get more mad/depressed, and then just attempt it right after they leave.

i'm so sorry! i was sure that if someone is an immediate danger to themselves or others, they could and should be taken to the hospital, with our without their consent.  

They should have taken him because he's a danger to himself. I'd call the police again. I'm sorry you're going through this and today of all days. Not really the day for all of it. <3

SO had the dts a few years ago & they said that they couldn't force him to go to the hospital but that if he tried harming himself or others to call 911 and request paramedics to evaluate him because they could make him go if they wanted to

yeah but threats can become actions. plus, he actually told the police himself that he was suicidal and wanted to kill himself. when does it get serious enough for the cops to take him?

this country is so messed up when it comes to the health and well being of people who need medical care of mental and suicidal problems

I guess so. It's still crazy though. He'd have to be actually in the process of doing it to be taken? By the time EMTs get there, it might be too late. I don't get that.

All threats of suicide MUST be taken as seriously as if they already carried it out.

I'm trying to look up Georgia mental hygiene laws but as far as I can tell, it is the officers discretion about making them go to the hospital. Which is stupid.

If you're really in Florida they should have taken him in and Baker Acted him. If he poses a danger to himself they can and usually do force admit. I would have called and talked to a higher up.

OP I would look into your state laws as most states have a law that allows for forced holds in these situations. Once you know the exact law you can call again and mention you want him to be held under that law.

I agree with you & I think theey should have taken OPs husband but unfortunetly they didn't. OP check into some mental health facilities G see if they could get him into counceling or something similar.

And as much as I hate to say this, I'm pretty sure he is doing it all for attention.
