Quoting Preggo Bear Claw:" I'm currently taking Tylenol 3 (w/ codeine) because I lost a filling and had exposed nerves - my jaw ... [snip!] ... a possibility. Good luck mama ! You CAN request your OB/GYN OR MIDWIFE write you a prescription for Tylenol 3 in the mean time."

I'm going to call them today if it gets that bad again. It finally passed around 2-3 am after two more tylenol and some benydril to help calm me. I kept asking my SO what I could do, what can I do. He kept saying there really was nothing. I may end up in the ER again if it gets as bad as last night.

I was going to call them today, until I realized it's Sat. I have no perception of time anymore after nine mo. of no work or anything lol. It doesn't hurt now which makes me think it's just an exposed nerve. I've never heard of an abscess coming and going in pain. I heard the only thing that can help that, is antibiotics. I always heard my mom say with an abscessed tooth she'd prefer amox. Over morphine. Or maybe both but never just pain killers. Lol. I'm more scared that it is an infection I heard that can be dangerous to me, and especially baby... If I call my OB I mean what can she really do, even if she refers me, if they don't take my insurance I can't go...

... Okay, so my midwife actually referred me to the dentist and they continuously said they wouldn't see me because of the pregnancy, I went in her office and had HER call and explain the situation - the stress of pain and not eating and the issues it could cause the baby; they then and only then agreed to see me. I don't know about the insurance issue though, if you are having a hard time ... Try one of the low income community dentists (if you have one near you) they usually accept most insurances and can even put you on a payment plan ... I'm a SAHM and they agreed to see me even if my insurance wouldn't pay because they considered me low income. I hope this helps?! - and yes, my pain came and went ... Some days were better than others but I still had an infection, I know if you go to the ER with an exposed nerve alone, and they don't suspect infection they'll usually snip the nerve to get you out of pain until you can get into the dentist ... This is only in extreme cases of pain though ...

I went to the ER after calling my OB, she literally took a 10 second look at my tooth, and said I needed antibiotics, and with this really sympathetic face said I CAN give you pain meds. They will cross the placenta but they will not harm the baby... I asked Are you sure they wont? And she laughed at me, reassuring me she were a doctor and wouldn't say other wise, but was glad to see me concerned. So I got penicillin and Vicodine. I already feel better.

I'm glad I followed the advice and called my OB and went in. I couldn't handle another night like last. It was awful!

OH and they gave me a list of dentist again but said since I'm two weeks out this will help until she's born but try and immediately get them taken care of.

Probably some of the worst pain next to child birth which I'll know soon, that I've ever felt. I feel guilty I waited like 2 hours past my next dose time to take the vicodine again. I made sure she was kicking and was done by the time I took them. I hate the idea of making her sleepy.

Thanks for letting me know all these things though! I had no idea tooth aches could be so harmful. I felt so silly at first. Lol.
