Great school or nice house... WWYD?

posted 1st Feb
Right now I am stuck in a school versus house dilemma. We have outgrown the home we currently live in and honestly it needs a lot of repairs our landlord is not willing to do. I am so tired of living here and want to move to a bigger nice home. But we rent and have to rent for now due to credit and income limits. Where we live now we are zoned for the BEST elementary school in the district and county. Problem is, it's a small town and no houses are available for rent. I have found a few houses that I would love to live in but they are out of the school's zone area. So now I am stuck. I love my kids' school and they have helped my DD sooooo much this school year. I hate to change schools but at the same time I am so SICK of this house. So what would you do? Stay in the not so nice house and pray something comes available in this area? Or move to a nicer house and hope that you like the new school. TIA

They do but only for in District and unfortunately I can not find anything that meets all our needs in District.
Out of district fees are too costly especially since we will have 3 in school next year.

This is what my husband suggested since we drive the kids to and from school, it's not like we will need them taken out of the area on a bus. The principal told me they can try to keep them there as long as we stay in the school district through the school of choice program but that's only in district and this rental market is AWFUL in district.
I think we would all (including the kids)be happier in a nicer house but at the same time don't want to jeopardize their education.

I say if you're going to move them, the sooner the better. I'd rather have my child move schools when they weren't too far into it as opposed to them being almost done with middle school or something and then moving them away from their friends.
I'd pick the nicer house. But also make it a point to make sure the kids had their friends over often so they didn't feel like they were losing that at all.

If the schools aren't horrific, I would switch. We took DD out of an A+ school, and put her into an A school because we moved and the new school is right next door. She is still getting a good education, and we make sure she is challenged at home.

go do an 'interview' with the school they'd be going to if you moved. talk to the teachers, principle, the workers. see what all they offer and how they could help your children take a tour and base your decision off of the way that goes.

I hadn't really thought of that. I have been hoping for something to come available around here, but doesn't look like it is.
Thanks!

At my sons school You can stay at the school for the rest of the school year no matter where you move to - as long as you provide your own transportation
