Feel like a smurffy mom :(

I gave my son a cherry to eat tonight because he'd never had one and he choked...like REALLY choked. No air, face turning blue, everything. My husband was beating on his back and nothing was coming out, I didn't know what was going on until I heard my husband yell, "Cough it up, Bubby!" I don't think I've ever moved so fast, I ran over to him, bent him over, gave him heimlich with NO progress from him, he was still not breathing. So...I crammed my finger down his throat and dug it out. He started breathing again and all I could do was sit there shaking and crying and holding my son.

I'm glad he's okay, but I keep feeling like crap because I was the one who gave it to him. I was the one that didn't think to cut it up. It was MY fault he was choking, and I keep thinking of what COULD have happened.

I just had to get that off my chest because I'm seriously beating myself up over this really badly.

Youre not a bad mom. We all make mistakes. Even as a third time mom I still do. Glad he is okay and hugs being sent your way!

Oh I am so sorry. We all make mistakes. I know that would be so scary to see.

He's ok and that's all that matters! Live and learn that's all you can do, you didn't give it to him with the intent of him choking... remember that. I've had to to the finger sweep several times on DD and the heimlich 1x. It was the most terrifying thing ever, i feel your pain.

He's currently running around and playing like nothing happened. I just wish I could stop feeling so crappy about it   It made me feel even worse that he was consoling ME after it happened.

Don't beat yourself up. You know now to cut them up and he's fine! Glad everything worked out hun.

Don't beat yourself up over it, we all do that at some point. (give our LO more than what they can chew...) It's all a part of learning, ma. At least now you know to cut em up, next time. And at least you got him back breathing and got it unlodged from his throat.
