Doctor prescribed me an anti-depressant?

So...I went to the doctor today and told her about my sleeping problems so she said she was going to prescribe me sleeping pills.


Well...I just now googled it and it's used to treat "major depression."


Da fuq?


Drug = Nortriptyline

I wouldn't take it.

Ambien and those types of things don't work?

Ambien works wonders for me. But she never even mentioned it.

It's an off-label use.

My doctor gave me trazadone for sleep and it's labeled as an antidepressant

Maybe mention it if you're not comfortable taking that one.

In response to the off label use that kind of makes sense because sometimes sleeping better can be a nice little cure for depression

lol yeah a lot of doctors prescribe anti-depressants off label for sleep because drowsiness is a very common side effect of the medication.
