re: Tipping at restaurants D&D

I don't see any credit card numbers. Or the person's name, just the signature.

Damn that would suck. Our Mim wage is 8.00$ Honestly you have to earn your tip.If you keep refilling my cup, asking me if everything is okay, clearing extra dishes out the way you know actually doing their job i wont have a problem tipping good.I had bad service in the past where the waitress/waiter did not do any of the above,Just served our food.I do not leave a good tip maybe like 2 bucks they dont even deserve that for smurffy service. Also the girl i think should be fired because of the CC information..common sense..No excuses.

I give god/s 0%, waitstaff get nice tips. I don't feel the need to write that on my receipts, though. This "pastor" is just a bitch. I'm sure she and her party had a hoot about it until it got put on blast for all to see.

Being a cheapskate is not an attractive quality.

I meant she didn't realize that she had posted some personal information until after she had posted it, then she went through a lot to keep the identities concealed, even speaking with moderators of Reddit. It was an honest mistake, and in my opinion, not worth being fired over.

Here is the thing about this whole story that bugs me though:
1. We don't really know if the waitress was doing a job that deserved a tip to begin with.
2. If I wrote a note like that on a receipt I wouldn't care if it was posted because I said it and it was how I felt.
3. The last 4 digits of a cc don't mean smurf to me. Now if my entire credit card info was available on that receipt, I'd flip. But it's not, it's 4 of the (is it 16?) digits.

ETA: however, I'd never write a note like that. Like I said in my other comment, it's childish.

In a lot of states jobs that get tips make a much lower ''minimum wage''. Usually ranged from $2.00-$3.50 an hour, where every other job in the state makes $8.00 an hour.

Also, look at your surroundings and everything the server is doing before you quickly judge them. While serving you are they running around and taking care of 4 other tables one of them being a party 15? They could be new and still learning how to multitask, being a server isn't easy and takes time to get it all down.

Doesn't really matter if she did a good job or not-their party was big enough for an automatic gratuity. If they didn't like that, they should have left.

I'm with ya on the rest of it.

That was a really smurffy thing for that person to write, pastor or not. If you're not going to leave a tip, don't add insult to injury. Then again, we don't know the whole story. Call me insensitive, but I get tired of hearing the whole "i'm a waitress" sob-story. You knew going into that job that you would be making a low base wage, and you took it anyway. Does that make it okay for someone to leave a smurffy note? No. Does that make it okay for someone to not leave a tip? Technically yes, that's what gratuity means. She got her tip though, so plastering this ladies information on the internet was just as pointless as the note the lady left.

I understand I'm currently a server at a rock and role/blues venue.it gets tough but if i am not doing my job i am not expecting to get a good tip. That's the risk when you get a job like that. Its fast paced and you have to be on it. I also worked at dennys when i was 19.After church on Sundays was the worst cant blame the crowd for not asking my customers if they need a refill and if everything is fine. And the places i went to.it was not busy. And us telling them 2 times to get our drinks in 30 minutes is ridiculous to me.

Yea, I just hate the whole gratuity system though. I've never personally left a bad tip though, so I can see why they have that to guarantee that the waitstaff gets paid for their hard work with waiting on so many people when others do leave bad tips at times. The reason I hate it though is because a waiter may have the attitude of "I'm going to get 18% regardless of how good a job I do" and then not do their job the way it's supposed to be done. But that's a whole other debate. I know it's not relevant to this story, I just don't see why anyone would not want to tip/ leave a note like that unless either the waitress did a smurffy job, or they are just that much of a cheapskate (if that's the case then they don't need to invite 20 people to go out to eat).

Does that say the tip was for 6.25 where she scribbled it out? What a cheap ass. I feel sorry for the waitress.

I'm a server too. I understand that if I did a smurffy job, then no, I don't deserve the tip. I just hope my guests take a look around and realize that they are not the one and only guest in the restaurant and see that I am running my butt off to get everyone what they need.

In the scenario you described with the drinks, no there is no excuse unless it was something like waiting on the bartender to get the drinks, in that case there isn't much a server can do. 30 min is still ridiculous and at that point I would have gotten my manager involved lol

At the restaurant I work at there was gratuity for parties of 8 or more, but it was optional. The computer system applied it, but a manager could over ride it if a guest disagreed. So we still had to work for our gratuity.

Ah, I see. Well if they all work like that then it's fine. I just think it's unfair to demand a tip. Tips should be earned IMO.

the thing to me, is, if the service was terrible and I left that note as a result, and it got all this publicity and stuff, the FIRST thing I would do would be to say, "Yeah, well, the service was awful, etc, etc, etc".

It's funny to me when they interviewed the pastor later she pretty much apologized for getting caught-not for what she did. I think she probably is generally a dirtbag. I mean, if it were me, I woulda owned it and been like, "she smurfed up my order twice, never gave me a refill, and when I placed my order she told me they had a weight watchers menu i should look at."
