Anyone had gallbladder surgery?

posted 1st Feb
My doctor thinks I'll be having it. She's ordering a gallbladder ultrasound next week.
How long were you out of commission and how long were you in pain? I don't want to miss any school.

Nope. Follow the rules, you can risk a belly button hernia then require another surgery to fix that.

Me! Best thing I have EVER done in my life after having kids and getting married.
I woke up with no pain at all. I popped two Advil the second day when I started doing a lot of activity and right now (I'm five days post-op) the only thing that hurts is sitting down and getting up from the floor.
I was told no more than lifting 20 lbs for four weeks. I've been cleaning, doing school work, and taking care of my kids since I got home.

I had it done on a Friday and was back to work the following Friday........I could have gone back to work earlier than that but at the time I only worked Fri, Sat, and Sun.

I think I was "down" for like 3 days, meaning that's how long I needed pain meds. I was up and about and pretty ok after about a day and a half.

Does the doc think you have stones? I didn't have stones, I had biliary dyskinesia....same surgery though

What were your symptoms before? And have you had any of those since?

I have no idea. She just said she thinks it's my gallbladder. My mom had to have hers removed when she was 36.

they probably think it's stones or maybe some kind of structural issue within the bile ducts. They'd order a HIDA scan to diagnose biliary dyskinesia

Yeah. She's just ordering an ultrasound. Ugh. I don't want surgery.

I was having severe gallbladder attacks that were worse than labor and by the end they were happening daily and for hours and hours - even morphine wasn't getting rid of the pain.
Beyond that, I couldn't eat anything. I was told I had acid reflux and GERD and that I was lactose intolerant and gluten intolerant. I was taking omeprazole, zofran, and I ate Tums like candy. I couldn't eat anything but the blandest food and was throwing up all the time.
Since getting my gallbladder out I haven't had any of the attacks and I can eat anything without getting sick. I haven't needed any medications, either. It's been great. I can't say how happy I am with things now.
I was scared. People told me it would really hurt, that I would be tired all the time after, and dairy and other foods would give me digestive problems. I've been fan-smurfing-tastic and just love it. Honestly, I've been almost high with happiness.

I feel SO much better since mine is gone. I had a regurgitating gallbladder. It would dump bile so fast and then sucked it back in like a turkey baster. Ate a hole in itself and was leaking bile into my abdomen. Horrid pain and sickness resulted. They took my gallbladder within hours of the discovery. It was outpatient. Felt great after. Easier than recovering from childbirth with an episiotomy. I got pain in my shoulder after which hurt worst than my abdomen because some residual gas from the surgery. By post op day 3 I felt completely "myself" again. Good luck!

She thinks it's my gallbladder because i have pain in my right hypochondriac region and it makes me run to the bathroom really fast.   My sister said she thought it was IBS but alas, seems it's the gallbladder.

well I hope all is well but honestly, the recovery from the surgery was very quick for me so if you have to have it, I hope the same is true for you.

actually, my doc started out with an ultrasound and it was normal but since I continued to have symptoms, they ordered the HIDA scan and diagnosed the problem.
