Natural Family Planning

posted 1st Feb
Hi ladies!
I need your help!
Do any of you wonderfuls successfully use Natural Family Planning as a method of birth control? Do you have any good sources of information regarding the subject? Chemical birth control is not working out for me, but I need to do more research before I commit to trying this. And so far, I'm finding lots of religious sources. Not what I'm looking for, lol.
Also, do you have any experiences to share? Did you love it? Hate it? What did you do if you *really* wanted to get it on, on a day you weren't supposed to? Did you just use another form of contraception or suck it up and go without?
Thanks in advance!

NFP is why I have a 2 year old.

Well, kinda. NFP is great if you don't get obnoxiously horny during your fertile window.

Taking charge of your fertility is a great book. I can't remember the author.

I use it & have only gotten pg twice & that's cause we weren't preventing. As long as you know your body & are regular it's easy to do.

i just avoid the fertile times for sex, and even when i'm not in a "fertile" time he still pulls out... never gotten pregnant unless we planned on it. haven't truly been on a BC since i was 17, and tomorrow i will be 26yrs old. so i'd say i've done well. just the key is if you are regular and know your symptoms of whats going on with your body, is the best thing to prevention of pregnancy when you aren't planning one

NFP is great If you have a predictable cycle and don't get "do-me-now" horny when you ovulate. Unforunately NFP is to thank for my current pregnancy, but I am still Breastfeeding my 2-year-old and it had made my cycles very unpredictable. I knew I was ovulating when we conceived him but I was so horny I was willing to chance it. lol
If you have more will power than me and a regular cycle I say go for it.

NFP also involves using condoms or abstaining from sex during ovulation. Those who don't are chancing pg. that's how people get PG & say but it doesn't work for me. Well duh, you have to prevent pg not just hope you don't get pg.

Withdrawal has actually been proven to be as effective as condoms IF a man has good control.

Yeah, SO and I only used the withdrawal method and it worked for us for 5 years! Then we had drunk sex one night and he wasn't as controlled as he usually is, which is how I ended up with my son. Best accident ever! But I definitely don't want it to happen again.

I though he had to be sure to not have cum for 12-24 hours before hand. I know I've read so many people say he pulled out, came & then they started having sex again. That can result in an unintended pg.

You should urinate for sure to make sure there is nothing in the tubes, but as long as you do that, there has never been any live sperm found in precum as long as a man has urinated in between.

I may not trust him either then. We had a miscommunication once where I thought he was going to pull & not TTC that cycle & he thought we were TTCing - but that was all. That is how we got Ds #1 - but that is fine. We had a lot of losses one after another & I just wanted a break from the stress of multiple pregnancies. I definitely wanted a baby - so there was NO miscommunication there, we were just going to take a month or two off. I was actually kind of pissed though until about 20ish weeks when it looked like everything really was going to be fine. But again, not an oops so much as a lack of clarity. LOL We haven't had that issue since, in fact we OVER check now...lol
