If you have a jealous type of dog...?

posted 1st Feb
I have a Pomeranian. Everyone keeps telling me how jealous they are and how they are not good to be around children. I have a 1 year old Pomeranian the sweetest dog ever, she loves kids which is funny that everyone says they worry for me, for when my little boy arrives. I know they say that you can take one of the blankets and wrap your child up in the hospital and have their scent on it, and then let the dog smell it so they get use to the scent. Well, I plan to try this. I just want to know what are other ways that I can make it where she won't try to hurt him. I mean she is definitely a ONE owner dog, and all, but she is sooooo good around al the kids I have ever had her around ever since I got her a year ago. She has a ton of fun around my nieces and nephew ranging from 2 years to 5 years. I have a great feeling of how she will do around him but I am nervous because if she nips him then SO said he will not tolerate it, and he will *:'(* I can't bring myself to say it. She is the first pet I've taken care of fully on my own other then my two labs outside which I don't have any worries about them and the baby. I just don't want her to get jealous. Any suggestions????? Please this is really important, this dog is very special to me! TIA!
See isn't she a cutie pie!
When I first got her at 7 weeks old :')

Now her at 1 year and 6 weeks old

I was a little worried about this, but my pup is very good with my toddler nephew, and he was good with him when he visited once as a baby. He is possessive of me, but he just cuddles me on the other side when husband is, or the second husband leaves bed, he climbs up and gets in his spot to cuddle me lol so I'm not too worried. It depends on their personality, so you would be a much better judge than any one else

He hates her is the sad part :'( they just don't get along. She is scared to death of him, and he just doesn't like her. For some reason he is the only person that she does not like :/. But I really do think she will do great! I have the best feeling about it, I mean and I feel if she does nip all I have to do is pop her and let her know it's not ok to nip at the baby. I just hope if she ever does, that I can correct her, and it not be seen by him  . I would be so broken hearted that I could not even talk to him if he got rid of her by ya know

You shouldn't have to worry about the dog trying to bite baby until baby is capable of grabbing at the dog. A dog will just be curious and maybe a bit leery. Everyone said SO's dog (jealous) would bite my LO before the inlaws dog (aggressive). neither have, but inlaws dog will bark at LO before we even get all the way in the door. That dog is will also snatch food right out of LO's hand. SO's dog nips (and has yet to even make contact with skin) only if LO is smacking him or pulling on his legs, tail, ears or poking him in the eyes.

AWWWW   he is sooooo cute!!! And I mean heck the dogs are definitely a womans best friend  ! I love my dog, and a lot of people have told me that they hate little dogs but they love my dog since she is a sweet heart lol. I love your dogs eye color! That is amazing and I was like whoa how pretty!!! What kind of dog is it? It looks like a mini snauzer if that is how you spell it or like a Scottish terrier or something like that, but I am not good with dog breeds lol.

Ahhhh Ok I thought it was something like that  ! But aww so little lol. I think that is about the most that my sweet girl weighs! I think she is bigger then the average Pomeranian...probably because I feed her sometimes some of what I eat. She is about 10 lbs, and most weight between 4-7 O.o

Hahahahha! That is too true! I love her hair it's so pretty no matter how wet she gets from anything or if she goes outside to pee, and gets dirt on her fur her coat is always so shiny! And awww   I guess dogs have high metabolism except my fat lab ;). He is a pig ever since birth, he was the fattest of the bunch, and still is. His brother who we also have is slim but the other guy is getting fat lol.
