Isn't this too young? Sexual, kinda

posted 31st Jan
My almost 4 year old likes to play in the "area". Now, I know that is normal. But today she said to me "Mommy, when I touch my pee pee I shake!". I was taken back and didn't even know what to say.

I just feel like it's kinda early for that. Maybe I am wrong. I knows she didn't learn it from some where else as I am a SAHM and she is literally with me 24-7. Never out of my sight. So it is something she learned on her own.

How do I go about the situation? I don't want to tell her it's bad, because it's not. But I also don't think she's ready for "that" talk yet.

Just explain that she should only touch herself there in private.

My sons dr talked to me at the 3 yr appt about little boys starting to masturbate so I wasn't concerned. And teaching privacy and where appropriate places to touch himself were- in the bedroom alone, in the bathroom. No one else is allowed to touch it. And washing hands when done. IDK never would have known if he hadn't said something- about little-little kids being able to do that KWIM? Privacy, etc are a given but I suppose some parents don't know?

DD says it tickles.
I just told her that is something that we do in private in our own room.

Then she said ok and ran to her room. SO's face looked like this

She is fine. To her it isn't sexual. It just feels good.

Hahaha.

My 17 month old just started playing with his penis and my husband hasn't seen it yet. I know he's going to die when he does. I think it's kind of funny but usually redirect his hands so he doesn't hurt himself (this happens during diaper changes when he reaches down and goes, "Oh, cool! A toy!")

I remember having tingles down there as long as I can remember as a little kid. I never knew what it was but maybe it's similar. I'd get them random times too. I remember riding my bike once when I was like 12 and got it.

the hardest part of parenting my 2.5 year old daughter was when i had to listen to her tell me that her "chiner" tickles and feels good when she touches it. no actually the hardest part was staying calm and agreeing with her. i then told her about privacy and espec about how no one else can touch her. toddlers go through a first puberty and each kid is different but it can be a very interesting time for some kids. my daughter hasn't said much since and i haven't noticed anything else since that talk. i think the key is to help them embrace their sexuality. they dont know to be private and the shame we feel for them says a lot about how we were taught to view our sexuality. lets not pass that shame on to our children.

Most if not all kids do this, they realize it feels good and continue to do it. just like the other ladies said remind them to do it in private you dont want to make your child feel shame all their life for something normal. My hubby took psychology and found out kids will spin in circles and bang their head cus it gives them the sensation of being high or drunk lol weird.

My son is only 1 and at bath time or anytime that thing isn't covered he touches himself. He likes to pull on it for some reason lol.
