TN proposing new bill

I just saw that TN is proposing a bill that would require teachers to "out" kids who they suspect are gay to their parents.

I am against the idea of this even being considered for a bill but I'd like to hear other's opinions on it. What do you think the results would be if it was passed? Are there any benefits to this? etc.

  What has possessed them to think that this is a good idea?

I think that is incredibly stupid. But I'm not surprised.

I'd probably tell the teacher to mind their own damn business! lol It isn't anybody's business but the childs to tell their parents if they are gay. SO STUPID!!!

It's being proposed by the same guy who wants to revamp TN welfare benefits based on a child's report card. (I think he's a total effing idiot!!!)

I don't agree with the OT, but I'm not totally against the report card thing. Of course if my son sucked at school, or even old enough to be in school, and I got benefits I'd probably be pissed! lol Some problems with grades have to do with the parents but sometimes kids just have a hard time

I'm wondering how it would benefit the kids with the parents who don't give a crap about their school grades. And how much pressure that would put on the kids. Yes, succeeding is great for the kids but what about the parents who would punish severely if there's a chance their benefits would be cut just bc the kid got low grades? I think if they want to get parents involved then don't put the child in that position, that's where the adults should be.

Both of the bills are stupid IMO. It is up to the child to decide if when where and how to tell their parents they're gay. And cutting off benefits to poor families over report cards. I went to an underprivileged school. There was no one on staff to help you with homework after class. Most of the parents were migrant workers who had not graduated high school and only spoke Spanish. They could help their children with something's but not all. What should we do to the families that are citizens that have this problem? Strip them of their benefits so they can attempt to work more hours while their child suffers even more trying to get an education.
