Adoption

posted 31st Jan
Hi! I'm new here and want to share my excitement about adopting! We are in the process and have expressed interest in a 7 year boy named Jakob! We began with the intent of an infant but our hearts have opened to this young boy. It is so heart wrenching all the children who need homes and how so many of them are over looked because of their age. We all need to be loved and excepted. I am beside myself to become a first time Mommy!!!!

Congrats. It is refreshing to hear about an older child than another infant.

awww...Im so happy for you and Jakob! Being a mom is amazing, I can tell you are going to LOVE it.

Is this an American adoption? How long was the process? Is the process shorter when adopting a child compared to an infant or baby?

We had to go through a process before we were open to that. We were told 6 months into our marriage we would not conceive, so this was hard on a new marriage. We prayed for a child over 10 years and feel adoption is a selfless and loving means in becoming parents. We want to experience the whole process but have fell in love with this little guy! can't wait to bring him home!

It is a domestic adoption but we are not going through a big agency. We chose a local child welfare program. It is free of cost and they provide required parenting classes, and home study. It is 9 sessions of classes and it takes about a month for the home stud. We will be done in April. Timing depends on what age you want and how open your are with ethnicity. Typically there is a waitng period for infants because it is a high demand.

adoption is not an easy process so I could not imagine being a birthmother and making a decision. We have been in this a little over a month and I'm going crazy as it is now and there have been people who have gone through this for years through big agencies. Do you get to see your son now?
