it's heart month

and in honor of heart month and congenital heart defect awareness week, i took some pix of my little man born with a congenital heart defect called TAPVR. he had open heart surgery when he was a day old.

My son had open heart surgery on the 15th feb two years ago. He spent his first birthday in the hospital recovery ward.

I make him a heart shaped cake every year.

He was born with DORV with PS, large VSD and tetralogy of fallot.

He's had a big repair, has an artificial valve. Will need surgery again when he's 10/13 yo which ever doc says. And a transplant in his 40s.

I have question about his transplant when his 40 does that mean his already on the heart transplant list or when his older? Just wondering

No. He will have to be placed on it when he needs it.

It is, but I try not to think about it. He's such a lively little boy. Nothing brings him down

Fontan?

Never heard that word spoken before. Maybe they call it something else here?

Hmm interesting. I just googled lol. And no he didn't have that procedure done.

What they did was create an artificial valve through the hole to the correct chamber and then they closed the hole around it. It will have to be adjusted or replaced as he grows because it doesn't grow with him.
