Kony and his minions are nutjobs. I knew about him (them) but had forgotten.

Again....still...he's being sought after.

Don't you get it? My whole point of this post was not to point fingerss at any one particular group. I do happen to think that radical Muslims are the most hostile group out there or, at least, doing the most damage, but that's not the question or debate here.

If ANY group of people was annihilating another group of people for ANY REASON (other than defensively), should we, as America, step in?

I even asked it in the title!

The answer I got in this thread was an overwhelming "No"...which surprised me.

That is part of the problem.....if it is happening in America then yes we should. However unless we are asked for help, as much of a tragedy it is, we should stay back. The resounding opinion of Americans I have heard is more negative than positive. Our "world police" stance has created a lot of hatred towards us. Yes it is sad, sad and horrible things happen everyday. However with all the people we have in our country struggling you would think strengthening ourself should be priority #1. I do have sympathy for the victims of these atrocities.

I gave a link on page 7 on Darfur. It wouldn't let me imbed it as a link so you have to highlight it & open tab in new window or copy & paste. I seriously have no interest to continue debating with you if you are being serious that you googled Rwanda & can't figure it out...seriously. Are you making an attempt at being funny? I honestly can't tell. You can't be serious, because that might actually put you in league with my 5 yr old's internet capabilities. THEN, then, seriously, i can't believe I ma even needing you to look up what Rwanda & Darfur are. WTH have you been the past decade???

I am TOTALLY okay with people NOT knowing things & needing info. Where you get annoying is forming an opinion with such little real knowledge of the world outside your bubble & then arguing your stance as if you are informed. There have been plenty of times in my life I needed more info & will be plenty of times to come. I try to reserve forming a strong opinion & arguing with people though until I at least get a modicum of info under my belt to have some semblance of a reason for thinking/feeling the way I do. So if you are wondering why I may be acting a bit annoyed, that would be why.

Quoting ~Julie Blue Eyes~:" The holocaust was real. America and the rest of the world ignored it. I think it's shameful. What point are you trying to make?"
My point is you keep jumping up & down saying you want current stuff as if anything before yesterday is old hat. The Holocaust is just an easy to identify one to point to where Christians were purposefully orchestrating the mass genocide of another religion. But even then, you've got to try to go on to some tangent about how Hitler wasn't "really" a Christian....even though that is how HE self identified publicly & to his people/troops, etc....and certainly the people who carried out the acts upon the Jews were mostly self identified Christians.

It isn't a resounding no - so much as...
"hey, so there is a domestic dispute going on next door & I think there is violence involved & I am not sure why it started, what weapons may or may not be involved & how many are there...should I send my mentally & emotionally challenged teenage brother over there to help settle things???And BTW he really is sweet & means well, but sometimes without warning he acts out &oh, he accidentally once killed the cat by petting it too hard...."

The fact is, I don't think we have a clue how to actually resolve other people's issues & have proven it time & again when we have gotten involved. Perhaps part of our issue is that we've always been focused on the profitability of what we have done versus the humanitarianism of it & perhaps, with the right focus that could change. However, I do not think we are prepared to be able to do that THIS moment. Look at hurricane Katrina & what a mess we made of that - in our own country, in peace time & people starving to death, dehydrating, we cant' establish safety....

A better question is - what do YOU think we CAN do? Do you truly believe we could do anything that would in fact make it better & if so, what?

What do you suppose America do? Do we send in troups to stop it? Establish a military base? Send humanitarian help?

All of that cost money. You don't want Obama to cause more debt do you?

Any or all of the above.

No, I don't want to accumulate more debt. But perhaps pulling out of SENSELESS wars and putting our troops where they can actually provide some amount of protection and peace would be a better way to spend money.

You must think I'm pro war? Pro Bush? I dunno, but I'm neither, as far as foreign policy goes.

I want to take the money we WASTE and put it where it could be useful. Crazy, I know.
