Quoting ~Julie Blue Eyes~:" <blockquote><b>Quoting Salad Fingers:</b>" Religion isn't out of the equation, though. ... [snip!] ... find an article, stating only the facts, anywhere else. So, would you feel differently if this was a black/white issue?"
It's not a black and white issue though. And 99% of the time, with foreign affairs such as these, you don't know for certain unless you're there. For example, I was in Iraq during the invasion. So I know first hand many truths that people may think I was crazy if I were to disclose. Like Al-Qaeda, for example. The non-existent Islamist group that did absolutely nothing against America but had more interest in harassing local Muslims for smoking cigarettes and mixing vegetables in their salads. But the mass media would have you believe differently. Fact of the matter is, anyone that was fighting the U.S. troops were completely independent and happened to own a rifle. How convenient is it that Al-Qaeda shows up only after the invasion and disappears as soon as American forces leave? Why? Because they were only there to take attention away from the bigger things that were going on. My point is, bad things happened, fingers are pointed because they need to be. People need to have a common enemy to hate. Since 9/11, that common enemy has been Muslims and ME, because I have a Middle Eastern name, face scrutiny to this DAY because of the actions of a handful of people. Do you think THAT's fair? Do you think it's fair that I have had people yell racial slurs at me, throw garbage at me from their cars, tell me that "I'm in America now and can take that thing off my head"?
Just like during the cold war, the Russians were the target of stereotyping, the subject of many big films, etc.
Or how during WWII, the Japanese were thrown into war camps just for being Japanese.
Come on man. You're seeing things through media-friendly rose colored glasses and getting all worked up because you want to believe that every article written with a byline has to be true, and if people don't scream out in anger because atrocities were committed by Muslims then they must be Islamofascist sympathizers.
There's evil in every corner of this world. It doesn't matter if the evil ones are Muslim, Christian, Jewish, Polytheist, tribal or sans religion. You can feel for all the victims but you can't stop the evil.
