DO vs MD?

My doctor is a DO, what is that?

Doctor of Osteopathy? They believe more in homeopathic remedies and such. My sister's MIL is a DO.

Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine.

DO = osteopath
I use a mix of DOs and MDs for my family. I dont notice a difference in their care.

I find through personal experience with friends that DOs are mostly people who can't get into MD school. I've never noticed a difference in their care though.

Same here & I went to a Do HOPING I'd notice a difference.

The one DO I know outside of his profession (personal friend) had a full ride scholarship to either program which are both offered at our state uni. He didn't pick DO because it was easier. DO's & MD's are both medically licensed Dr's that practice both in private practice as well as hospitals...so I am not sure what you're trying to say. My Dr who is a DO is the head of emergency medicine at a neighboring hospital.

still doesnt make sense. all doctors, regardless of do or md, go through med school and its incredibly hard to get in either one

Most of my friends who applied to both DO and MD schools got rejected from MD schools, but got into DO schools.

There is MUCH more competition for slots in schools for MDs.
I'm not sure if its true today, but not too long ago it was harder to get into vet school than med school.

Regardless of which degree, there are MDs who graduated at the bottom of the class and DOs that graduated at the top of their class. Generalizations probably aren't wise in this area.
